What's the best area for an O/O?

    I was just doing research on the areas of the country to be an O/O. Best lanes, taxes, regs, etc, etc, etc. I don't mind moving since I'm single. I've lived pretty much everywhere since I come from a military family. As best as I can tell I came up with Indiana, Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, Nevada, and Washington. These states happen to rise to the top cause of tax reasons for the most part. There's only a handful of states that suck for much the same reason. Any other suggestions besides those six?

    Just kidding. I think about anywhere is good. Every where you go there will be distinct advantages and disadvantages and in the end it's probably a wash.

    I live in TN and think it's a great place to be an O/O.

    What kind of work you wanna do is a big factor. Flatbed, stepdeck, double drop, are stronger in some areas. Refer, dryvan, live stock, and dump buckets have their areas that are strong. Hard to pick one area and say it’s the best place to set up shop. Some areas overlap. Probably best to figure out what type of hauling you wanna do then research from there.

    I run flatbed out of SW MO, and the rates blow goats out of this area.

    In fact, I rarely find anything at all to load in this area.

    But ,

    I run flatbed out of SW MO . . .

    Actually Washington doesn't have state or personal income tax. But they do get their blood in other ways. Most of the O/O's who I've talked to who live their like it cause their runs tend to be nice and long.

    When you say Washington doesn't have state or personal tax. Are you talking state income or state sales tax? I like new hampshire because they don't have state income tax OR state sales tax on most items. They have what I call tourist tax. Anything someone from out of town needs (rental car, hotel room, sit down restaurant meal) has tax. For everything else, when the price says $4.99. I give the clerk a $5.00 bill and they give me back a penny. Not like in Indiana when the price is $4.99 the clerk says $5.23
