It kind of depends on your situation. If your boss is cool and they would put you back to work then tell them you want to have a crack at it and when you will go. If it isn’t that kind of place, see if you can take leave. If it is working out then you can give them the bad news.

As far as the job goes, as long as you like to road trip, are a safe driver, and don’t mind living out of a small space you will probably do fine.

A please, don’t be one of those drivers that is too lazy to put trash in the bin like a decent person.

There's other ways to get your CDL than full time "prime school". Get your CDL from a local community college while employed, then get the big boy driving job. Take vacation for four weeks to make sure you like driving, and off you go.

Used to be, 2 weeks notice was a thing, nowadays you get marched off the property 99% of the time if you give notice. Unless you are "essential" (and few, very few, of us are), they'll want you gone when you give notice.

They may call for employment verification, but not to see if you quit.

Google for cdl schools in your area, then contact the school and ask if they offer part time or weekend classes. If you have enough vacation time built up, attend school full time during vacation.

Don’t burn bridges. You might go on the road and hate life. It’s not for everyone. You might not be good at it. Multiple accidents and then can’t find a job and basically be forced out of trucking cause of record. Then your worse off then when you started. Not saying you’ll hate OTR or trucking or be bad at trucking but after reading threads on this forum you never know. Just cover your 6.
