It kind of depends on your situation. If your boss is cool and they would put you back to work then tell them you want to have a crack at it and when you will go. If it isn’t that kind of place, see if you can take leave. If it is working out then you can give them the bad news.
As far as the job goes, as long as you like to road trip, are a safe driver, and don’t mind living out of a small space you will probably do fine.
A please, don’t be one of those drivers that is too lazy to put trash in the bin like a decent person.
Should I quit my job before or after going to orientation?

There's other ways to get your CDL than full time "prime school". Get your CDL from a local community college while employed, then get the big boy driving job. Take vacation for four weeks to make sure you like driving, and off you go.
Used to be, 2 weeks notice was a thing, nowadays you get marched off the property 99% of the time if you give notice. Unless you are "essential" (and few, very few, of us are), they'll want you gone when you give notice. -
Vacation, get you a trainer, once you sure about trucking, keep on trucking brother.

Don’t burn bridges. You might go on the road and hate life. It’s not for everyone. You might not be good at it. Multiple accidents and then can’t find a job and basically be forced out of trucking cause of record. Then your worse off then when you started. Not saying you’ll hate OTR or trucking or be bad at trucking but after reading threads on this forum you never know. Just cover your 6.
