Ok, here we go.
I had a blow out on a trailer tire 12-28-18. I took it to a Petro. Told them I wanted the same sized tires that were on the trailer.
I go home for a few days for New Years, get back on the road, outside tire to the one I replaced a week earlier blows out. Drove about 1,200 miles.
Today I'm looking at the new tire that was replaced Friday and it has no tread on it. When I was a company driver for Knight I ran into this once, where they had a high profile tire next to a low profile and the tire wore about the same. So, I'm thinking they put the wrong tire on. I'm looking at it and outside tire is sticking up at least a half inch higher than the outside tire.
I figure it out, Petro put on a 295/75 R 22.5, I've got 275/80 R 22.5 on the other tires. I call Petro and they tell me it's DOT legal to run these tires next to each other. He claimed they are the same tire. I talked to another trucker and was told 295 is high profile 275 is a low profile. Guy at Petro is claiming there's another problem, it's not that tire.
I'm positive the reason the outside tire is wearing like that is because they don't match. I told him you can see they don't match, he claimed the difference is tread, I'm like no way tread would make a noticeable difference.
Just wondering what your guys thoughts here. There's no Petro TA, WITHIN 200 miles of me right now, honestly don't think I can make it that far, so I'm taking it to loves.
Missed matched tires, Hi Pro next to a Low Pro on trailer?

If the tread depth was equal, there is only about 1/8" difference in height between these 2 sizes. If 1 was new and the other wore out there would be a lot bigger difference
-
The other tires have about 40,000 miles on them. It's a new trailer, that's the mileage I put on it since I got the trailer.
-
The second tire was brand new. Inside and outside tire were both new Friday.

They are pretty close to the same diameter. Fresh tread compared to worn tread can be a significant difference, and pairing them can cause one to chew up the other in a hurry.

Wrong size tire. I've seen that happen within 600 miles .
They put an 11R22.5 next to a low profile tire. It ate the low one.Dave_in_AZ and albloomfield Thank this. -
295/75r22.5 is 39.9" tall
275/80r22.5 is 39.8" tall
11r22.5 is 41.4" tall
These measurements are when new with the same tread depth.6wheeler and Petty Cash Thank this. -
I specifically said I wanted same tire on, then asked why I wasn't informed, he said because it's the same tire. I would of never approved them putting a different sized tire on. -
Different brands could vary a little bit due to different tread depths, that could be your problem.
albloomfield Thanks this. -
What benefits me at all at putting on a different tire? At the very least shouldn't I be informed they are putting a different sized tire n, even if technically there isn't much difference?
I wouldn't of let them put it on if I was told.
