ABF or FedEx Freight

    but also, as I have clearly stated, OD is not hiring at the terminal I would be out of, AND I'm not looking at them at all. Right now, so far, FXF looks to have the better option/pay going. But, only time will tell. I had my phone interview yesterday with fxf, it'll take about a month(IF) before I hear back from ABF....yet fxf has been very quick to responding to my app. I understand how 'nit-picky' ABF is with their background checks, which is very good....but if offered with fxf first, I may just go with them as I'll actually be home everyday...a long term 'goal' I set out to do when I started trucking 7 years ago...been a long road....hopefully the road is longer ahead! ;)

    Just kidding. Good luck with your search. This is a bad time of year to be looking for an LTL job, so it's great if you hear back and get an interview and get on. By the time peak season hits, you'll probably have new drivers under you (depending on the size of the terminal). Keep us posted!

    I work in the atl area and from time app put in to starting was a month. Once the hiring manager called it went fast

    Like I said,phone interview was on tuesday. She said a hiring manager would review my app and call me back for an interview. I only have 1 accident....well preventable and that was a dropped trailer that was right over 4 years ago(it's bound to happen to us all, I'm sure)....so how long did it take from phone interview to hiring manager to call you?

    actually, I did consider working for OD at one time, 3 years ago. However, they are very rarely hiring in my area. Plus, as I have said, I have some friends that work there and they both do nothing but the northeast. I'm just done with that area! I'd probably go back to smoking if I had to deal with that BS again! haha I do run NE very seldom now, so it's not day-in, day-out like it was for 3-4 years.

    yeah...just read it...interesting thread! Gave me alot of insight. Good to know that HR called you back quickly, like they did me. I guess the waiting game really happens with the TM calling me for interview. Knowing my luck, my current company will send me to CA(which is always great runs/money), when he calls! haha Just like when ABF TM called to schedule interview last week. Called on Monday, I setup interview for next day(since I was on a short dedicated run)....then 30 minutes later BAM truck breaks down and in hotel for 3 days! Luckily, I was able to reschedule that for Friday! PHEW! lol

    Hey guys, we just relocated from California with 16 years of safe driving under my belt and eager to get situated! I been living in Texas only 4 months and I've been blessed with Job opportunities left and right. But we all know that trucking can be tricky as far as getting what u want! Pay, benefits, (or paid benefits) pension/ retirement and quality life like weekends off. I currently worked as a seasonal UPS feeder Driver last peak season. I just got hired and have orientation with USPS for Tractor trailer Operator this month. I been going through the Hiring process with USPS bc I need a job and it sounds like a great opportunity. With that said, bc of the lengthy Hiring process and needing income. I've been putting in apps left and right! Just incase its not what I'm looking for. I'm currently going through a lengthy background check with ABF for part-time Dock worker and will be waiting for Driver's to retire in the next month's to become Driver/ dock worker. Now FedEx freight city Driver just emailed me for a interview. Due to USPS not having weekends off I'm probably going to jump ship if ABF and FedEx are interested in me. What do u guys think of these 2 opportunities? Fedex is full-time and ABF is part-time dock worker but will Drive in a couple of months and be full-time?Thanks guys!

    I can’t speak on the benefits of ABF, but I’m going thru the hiring process at FedEx Freight and I can tell you their health benefits are incredible. That would be the only thing about being part time at Arkansas’ Best Freight they may not have benefits for part time employees. That’d be my only hang up. But as you said with your driving history and record, you can be choosy. Good for you and good luck in whatever you decide!
