If the companies are so worried about protecting themselves, why aren't they installing rear-facing cameras on both sides of the truck? I would think there is a lot of money in claims from vehicles drifting out of their lane into the side of a truck with no way to prove who was or wasn't in their lane.

Yea I could see doing that running those drivers off pretty quick. This is simply just a privacy issue for.OTR drivers. It's not the same if your in a daycab with a driver facing camera. Someone above said ita no different than being watched by a camera when your pumping gas at the fuel pump..your not living in the fuel island!

I meant that the problem drivers usually get shown the door before it even gets to that point. I agree with you though. I run OTR in a daycab. I wouldn't be too happy about the camera but I wouldn't hand in my keys over it. If I was still in a sleeper? Yea that would probably do it for me. No different than having a camera in my hotel room.

You make some good points. The common misconception about these cameras is that someone is sitting on the other end watching it constantly. Lol... who would want to sit there watching some billy big rigger going down the road picking his nose or scratching his crotch or spitting into a bottle all day?

I don’t want a camera in my face any more than the next guy, but this is the 21st century... Probably at least 90% of all workplaces are under some kind of surveillance.

And what about all the cameras at shippers/receivers, truck stops, company terminals, etc.? Are we going to stop delivering to receivers that have cameras pointed at their docks? Are we going to stop buying fuel from any truckstop with cameras pointed at the pumps?

The company I work has them installed, after a while you don't even know their even there. Ours though do not record all the time they are only action motivated so if the sensors detect you're falling asleep first it will activate your seat which is designed to vibrate and a weird alarm will go off if one was feeling sleepy after that thing activates your well and truly wide awake. They will from time to time randomly activate as well however you know their working as a either a green or red light will light up under the camera i usually just make all kinds of funny faces to give those viewing it on the other end something to laugh about.

Mayby like a sharp stick in your eye? I have heard say " after awhile you don't even know its there"? Sure is a sad state of affairs, that we now are even having this discussion about driver facing cameras.

These typically only are implemented following a major crash in the fleet where distracted driving of the truck driver was easy to prove was the sole cause of the crash. They tried to get drivers to not do these things but their passive attempts failed and it finally nearly bankrupted them and they’re done playing Russian Roulette with un-monitored drivers they can no longer trust.

It sucks but they’ve obviously reached the end of their patience. And no, they’re not even a little concerned or interested with what you’re doing while the vehicle is parked. Please. Get over yourself.

Reply : don't worry I won't record you till I will feel like I need to.
????
See how long it will last...So why in hell it's not OK to put camera right next to his face , but OK to record me when something , or someone need it.
