    LMMFAO.

I take a serious look at any pre ‘98 International 9800 Eagle flat floor cabover with a M11 or DD60 or N14. Keeps things cheap and simple without Elogs, emissions and ABS.......you should appreciate that because it makes trucking “easy” just the way you like it.

But they don’t come with automatics so I guess you’d be out......if you owned a trucking company ......which you don’t.

    Trust me we aren’t threatened.

I'll say it again, when you are the one writing the checks you can let us know how much better that auto is.

it is a skill, it does make you a better driver, not everyone can learn to shift, and not just anyone should be behind the wheel of a truck.
mpg's really aren't that much better, to me that's just one of the excuse's they give to pave the way for electric and driver-less. if you want to enjoy the technology fine, but that's the path technology's going for trucking
    it's not just pissing contest...

But rank, you'll only get 6.5 mpg with that old truck you have to endlessly shift all the time.. you won't make any money! Especially if you can't match 3000 miles a week at 9 mpg and 1.30 freight ...lol

The longer I do this #### the more my left knee sometimes bothers me mashing in that ##### clutch all the time. To be honest I would happily take a Volvo I-shift truck or Mack M-drive or whatever auto options are out there. People that have them seem to love them and never want to go back to manual.

There are days i agree with you. And then I'm talking to a buddy with an auto and he had it in the shop for the 39th time.

MPG improvement my butt. My 2016 Pinnacle with an MP8 and 12 speed mDrive gets in the low 5's as do most of my company's fleet. And this is with my truck governed at 65 so I am legal in Ontario and Quebec. And since we haul with specialized equipment, I run empty 1/2 the time. The '95 FLD I owned with 800k on the clock (with a 12.7 S60 Detroit and a manual 10 spd) got in the upper 6's running at the various states speed limit (or so). My FLD had the same transmission and cluch since new, my mDrive has been replaced once, and likely need replaced again before 500k the way it's acting. It's firmware was upgraded when they swapped. So what's the advantage of technology here?

LOL yep.....I read stories like those below from you and @supersnackbar and I ask myself "Why?" So I don't have to use 8 oz of force to move a shifter 12 inches? Margins in trucking are thin enough without introducing another weak link into the RAMD chain (reliability, availability, maintainability, dependability). Honestly I am dumbfounded by the idiocy of the whole thing.

I get where the fleets are coming from......they want to fill seats with monkeys but a small fleet owner or guy that drives his own truck? They are just way better off spending the money on a quality driver. Not only will he have fewer transmission problems, but all sorts of other problems go away as well......accidents, insurance premiums, late deliveries.....all these things are directly and indirectly related to automatic transmissions breaking down and because you've got idiots behind the wheel.
