    I do not know the details, but if it came out of California courts or legislature, it will likely damage the ability of blue collar citizens to earn a decent living.

    People are leaving California by the thousands. More people leaving California than are moving to California. It seems the politicians want only very wealthy or very poor people there and prefer the middle class leave.

    Basically if you’re leased to a carrier California in all their wisdom has decided you should be an employee. I’m their eyes there is no longer such a thing as being an owner operator leased to a carrier.

    They’re right you know. An Owner Operator leased to a carrier MUST follow the carriers regulations. Look even at LS you must follow their rules or they’ll cancel your lease.

    To be a true independent, you must first become independent. Own the carrier own the rules.

    Edit: this was the main reason my stay at LS was so short. It reminded me working at UsX to much. I had become accustom to not working for a big Corporate conglomerate lol. I bought my truck to be my own boss, not still kind of have one.

    I hate CA & what has been done out there. (Jersey is pretty horrible as well). But those tree huggin hippies got this one right imo.

    Yup.... get your own authority. Got no problem with that. The big question is how much more is swift gonna pay them if they stay with their own numbers.?

    In the end, you still have a boss. The customer. You are getting paid for a service. If you do not provide that service in an agreed-upon manner, you will not be providing services for long.

    Your freedom as a company driver varies from one company to the next.

    The same holds true as a l/o or o/o working under another company's authority. Every company has different rules and requirements for you to work for them.

    The greatest potential freedom is, indeed, working under your own authority. But, you still have a boss. The customer.

    What CA seems to have done here is decided that it knows best what is good for all drivers, rather than allowing Capitalism to work.

    The customer is not the boss. Without trucks, freight would sit at the docks. Without freight, trucks would sit at the lot. I always consider the customer as an equal, like a partner.

    The person with the money is the boss, if they have a choice on who to hire.

    That doesnt mean that you have no influence, it means you are a hireling. Literally.
