I got my first overweight Ticket... I was wondering how many points would that be on my safety score for my trucking company... I scaled at a Cat Scale and it said I was legal... But the DOT scale said I was off on my trailer axel... When I explained this to my driver manager he said either the scale was off or you weren't on the scale right... How does this go given the fact that I have a scale ticket saying I was legal?

    Doealex Thanks this.

The ticket is written to the truck owner..not the driver.
Company will pay fine and charge you back the fine.
    Not sure about the points.

    Lepton1 and Trucker926 Thank this.

Read the CAT Scale ticket. It will tell you what to do.

There are no points for overweight. However it is a good reason for them to perform a level 1 inspection and any deficiencies they find on an inspection will accrue points.

Bean Jr. and Upinsmoke Thank this.

Yeah. Virginia is pretty explicit when you get the overweight ticket. "This ticket is to the company and does not give you any points." I wonder if they had lots of irate drivers before they started telling everybody. Not like Virginia scales ever close.

    Trucker926 and Upinsmoke Thank this.

Yes. Time for them to put up or shut up.

I’ll be interested to know how this turns out.

Another note for OP. Remember to never set the brakes on the scale. It should be perfectly level. If you have to set the brakes only set the tractor because if the trailer has dump valves it will put sideways force between the trailer and tractor.

I always set the trailer brakes only on the scale. This allows the drive and steer plate to settle freely with out any interference from the steer and drives being locked together. Good point about the airbag suspension, something we never had to think about years ago when I drove for Schneider. They were vehement about their disdain for air ride trailers (too cheap)

    Steers don't have spring brakes.

They did an inspection and didn't find anything else wrong...
