Hi all.
I went on vacation by myself. Went back east to a get-together with my buds from high school.
Every year since 1982, we'd rent a cabin in the woods for a long weekend in February. Eat, drink, and be merry together.
As the years went on, we lost our contacts to the cabins we used, but every year we made a point of getting together. One year we rented two hotel rooms and partied there.
Anyway, I've missed a lot of these weekends since I've moved west. Just couldn't afford it most years, other years I just didn't make it a priority.
This year we had another death in the group. So this year I made going to the gathering a priority.
I had a great time. We always just pick up where we left off. We're grayer, fatter, balder, and slower, but we still got heart.
The town I grew up in is nearly unrecognizable to me now, and I couldn't afford to live there even if I wanted to. But being there with these guys who are more family to me than my actual family, stirred up a lot of emotion, and made me start closely examining what I'm doing with my life, and if I want to do something else, I better figure out fast what it is and how to make it happen.
Trucking's okay, I'm just not sure "okay" is enough anymore.
Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to "check in" with y'all, and sketch out my mental state, which is still pretty effed up.
I'm stayin' on the forum sidelines awhile longer, but feel free to pm me if ya want. I'm also going to go to MATS in a few weeks, not sure yet if I'm going Friday or Saturday.
Peace out. -
+1. My observation is it takes exactly 71 mph to get around one of those on I-81. Or swing out on a long uphill and out pull them. Not that I do that a lot or anything LOL.

Looks like the 70 is reopening right now. I think I’ll wait a few hours and let the madness die down a bit as everybody tries to race across the pass.
It’s been a beautiful day in Grand Junction. Cool sunset...
