Probably a water thing. With all this snow and rain, it probably got them to wake up

In Santa Barbara we received twice or more of the normal rainfall.

So fire season will be big in September to December.

Unfortunately the moth that pollinates them did not get the memo to wake up early and take care of business.

    Training Update:

I’ve noticed that most trainees or 2nd chance drivers lack the prerequisite planning and math skills to properly set up their day. I’ve also noted the more they try to hurry, the later, or more of a danger they are.

Its the 20 minutes before you start that can save you hours. They just want to rush forward with out a ####ing clue to where they’re going, or what the weather is.

The closest I’ve got to mad at a trainee was because of his constant lack of planning. It was like if he looked at google or the Rand McNally book he would some how get cancer. The moron followed the company GPS which is wrong, I told him it’s wrong and lies and he still ####ing ended up in a neighborhood where he shouldn’t be. It would be a tough back for even an experienced driver (who wouldn’t be there in the first place) and for this trainee it was going to be #### near impossible.

He looked at me like “can you do it?” And before he could open his mouth I said “lack of planning on your part doesn’t create an emergency on my part. I told you your #1 job is to protect your CDL. There’s no way in hell im getting behind the wheel to save your ### at the risk of my CDL. Especially after I’ve told you 10X’s not to do what you did.

“I know I know I know” was his answer.

I said fix it. Call the cops or back it out. You’re the professional driver start ####ing acting like it.

So he burns an hour and can’t make our fuel stop before he runs out of time.

I didn’t let him drive for a day. Just made him trip plan. He didn’t like the idea and I said fine... Tell me where to drop you off then because your not ####ing up my truck or hitting someone or getting me killed.

I reported it to my superior. The trainee ended up passing his test and getting his own truck. They gave him an older Tractor and he got a speeding ticket his first week.

This was a couple of months ago now. He and I have actually become friendly. He’s running a dedicated route that doesn’t require planning. LOL.

Good job Western Express on making this work for both of you. Seriously. They read what I wrote and figured out how to use this driver. Let me add He can drive that’s not the problem, except for the speeding ticket, just needed to compartmentalize his skill set.

More on the difference between redneck drivers and city raised drivers next time on “Otters wide world of believe it or not”.

    Cheers.

My father hauled coal forever, always grossed 125k to 135k every trip.
He was the #1 driver and always got choice of the new trucks
He never cared much for the Pete's but he loved the Stars and the Cornbinders
Always a big hammer under the hood with an 18
He's been retired for about 10years now, he still misses it

Rocks, BigBob410, 4mer trucker and 5 others Thank this.
