    Thank you.
I didn't think I'd have to explain that what I mean is give me "under the radar" types of companies I can apply to since the megas are common knowledge.

Yeah I'm probably going to go with big orange and I've been in dialogue with them. Nothing against the megas, I was just wondering if there were other companies that fly under the radar in the Sacto area that I could look into. I'll check out Levitt Freight. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks, but teams is something I'm definitely unwilling to do.

You might call some of the smaller companies that run the I-5 out of Oregon. A&M & Thomas & Sons are 2 that come to mind.

I have considered this, but I'm closing in on fifty, and those seem to be young men's gigs. For example, PepsiCo recruits heavily from the school I attend. I would jump on them if I were in my mid-twenties.

If you are currently still attending school, I would go with the company that seems to want you most and is willing to offer things you want or need (cpm, insurance, truck styles and makes, types of runs). Reputation is also very important! Hence I tend toward larger companies who have had more drivers.

I'm reluctant to tell you, but May Trucking will hire new students out of NorCal. They have Drop yards along the 5 and you would work out of the Brooks, OR terminal. They have great equipment, but please know they have slow trucks and low pay. Last I heard their fleet was about 1300 trucks. Check it out and you decide. I started there a long time ago and still have mixed feelings.

I just recalled that I meant to comment on the question about why it is so difficult to find companies who are hiring drivers in Cali. I recently read online that California is going to start enforcing their laws about companies being required to meet their emissions standards to be able to run their trucks in California. The article said companies may pull away from the state because of it. Trucks don't emit near as many emissions as they did when I was younger though. I can't even smell the diesel from most of them anymore.

If you’ve got a work ethic you’ve got a work ethic. I’ve seen men in their 50s dust those young kids just because you all have a much better work mentality than a lot of them. It doesn’t hurt to try. If I am a driver manager I am gonna hire the guy who wants to work regardless of age.
