The Canadian trucking industry is the farthest thing from "professional" at the moment. Anyone who has driven on highway 11 and 17 will know this. I know many immigrant drivers who are drugged out on drugs while driving their death machine down the highway everyday. I think if Canada introduced some kind of mandatory drug testing like DOT does, it will thin out the herd quite a bit. Exactly why I prefer cross border driving, I find the US drivers aren't nearly as bad as the Canadian ones.

    Dear diary,

Today super trucker Kemosabi taught me to read through the entire garbage thread before posting. His dry sarcasm has inspired me to post some sarcasm of my own.

Isn’t it a Christmas miracle that the driver was sentenced to 8 yrs in prison. Now the good taxpayers of Canada can pay for him to be locked away where he will learn to be a better person and a better driver. Also, with the blame squarely on that immigrant’s shoulders Canada can rest easy knowing their highways are safe now.

If Canadian carriers actually paid drivers what they are worth, there would be less empty seats to fill. If carriers were also required by law to have drivers with a minimum standard of training, they also wouldn't be able to fill seats with warm bums right off the boat.

I remember 2 years ago I went looking around for a local job in Toronto. I didn't have much experience and had a hard time getting insurance. Went to one company in Brampton which wanted to give me $16 an hour and 50 hours a week. They also mentioned I would have to pay $500 a month for insurance to be a company driver.which would make me $2700 a month. 2700÷200 hours brings in $13.50 an hour. Who the #### would drive an 18 wheeler for $1 over minimum wage?

Yeah did you see the news story that Ontario’s solution to the “trucker shortage” is to hire more immigrant drivers......wow, and I guess I agree on the pay part, needs to be minimum hauling charges per mile set in place and nobody can haul for less then the pay would go up, every coMpany is so scared to up any rate it’s disgusting because the next company will grab up the load and do it for $0 profit, not sure how most companies stay in business...

I did the math recently on how much I truly make per hour, and to say the least, it's one of the main reasons why I'm applying at a new company. I make less per hour than our city drivers.
