Sure. If you are confident about the detour. Generally it is a bad idea to detour unless you are absolutely sure of your route. The bigger the city, the more dangerous it is to take detours.

Most likely, if I ever wind up having to take a detour, I'm gonna try to do it where I can get back on the interstate quickly. Around the cities, I would check to see if there is an interstate beltway around it, like around Raleigh NC. And there are two of em around Raleigh.

Hello everyone. Sorry for being MIA. Been busy with different things. Anyway, I have started with another trucking school. I completed my first week Thursday. I got my Commercial Learner's Permit and started out in the yard. My class got a preview of the pre-trip inspection procedure and backing manuevers. I just hope that I learn enough to get it on the first try. I have gotten a pre-hire letter from Western Express as well. All I have to do is complete CDL school. I have also gotten in touch with TMC Transportation and am looking at working with them. All in all, it was a very productive first week and I look forward to week two. I just hope that I can make it as productive as week one.

Hello one and all. I have completed my last week of CDL School and will be taking my road test this coming Tuesday. By all indications, I will pass it on the first try. I passed my pre-trip test pretty well, but could have done better. I passed my backing manuevers test with flying colors. All I have left is the road test. For my entire fourth week, I did behind the wheel training and have gotten pretty decent at it. Some minor gear clashing every so often, but that is due to not paying quite enough attention. Other than that, I feel that I am doing pretty good. One of the instructors kinda took me under his wing and taught a little about trip planning, coupling and un-coupling the trailer, map reading, and a few other things. He told me the main thing was to pay attention to your tractor and trailer and watch what it is telling you. The rest of it will fall in place as I get experience. So, that is my final week update. I will give another update Tuesday afternoon.

Thanks. I will do my best to be safe and keep everyone and everything around me safe. This is exciting, to say the least. However, I am also nervous. The thought of pulling up to 40 tons down the road at 50 to 60 miles an hours really scares me but I gotta do whatever I can to keep myself and everyone else around me safe. One of the instructors said repeatedly that they don't call truck drivers "professional drivers" for nothing. They have a lot more things to worry about. The truck they drive, the load they haul, watching their surroundings, all that stuff. However the same instructor also said that if you can do all that for years on end with no accidents or incidents, then it is well worth it .
