I was one of those new guys with no open deck experience. It comes down to the driver and I've seen both older and newer numbers with screwed up securement. I've pointed it out to newer and older drivers to no avail and been thanked for the help by others. I have also taken tips from newer and older guys.
I had one guy ask me if I'd mind taking advice because a lot of guys aren't willing to accept help. He seemed almost scared to ask if I would mind. It didn't even directly relate to securement, it was just a tip of how to secure some extra strap.
I've also seen some pretty rough looking equipment with lower numbers also. As much as someone whose been doing this a long time, you, would like to place blame on newer guys, it just isn't so. Again, it comes down to the driver, whether he's a long or short timer.

I think an all oo company will always be at a disadvantage in csa because of the rank being a comparison to all companies in the size class. Other companies can just make a change to fix whatever keep coming up but places like Mercer have a harder time with it. Log violations used to be the killer here so the went to elog before the mandate and look at the backlash that came from it.
roshea Thanks this. -
Maybe they need to start requiring additional inspections here besides the 2 that they currently do. -

When I came to Mercer I already had 30 years driving, but being a "new guy" at Mercer must have meant I didn't know anything. Okay.
JonJon78 Thanks this.
