Recently someone said that Detroit diesel engines should use Mobil delvac oil. Personally, using shell rotella seems a better choice considering it has superior quality. Is it true that a dd13 engine must use Mobil delvac instead of any other?

Really your choice. If you like Rotella, use Rotella. If you prefer Mobile Delvac, use that. Both are high quality engine oils designed for todays diesel engines.

It comes with Delvac from the factory. The label on side of engine says use Delvac.
I used rotella in my Cummins.
Switched to delvac when I bought a truck with a Detroit.
Tried using rotella in it, but it burned it up, so I had to keep adding oil. (I'm not a mechanic and my opinion doesn't count for squat. But i think rotella is to thin)
Switched back to delvac that problem went away.
One time at a Petro, I put in delo in by accident, didnt have any problems or extra burn.

Yes. Tib it does have the tendency to sweat oil vapors around which will turn into leaks. Imagine if synthetic oil was used on this type of engine. Leakcadia.

Thanks mover. This truck does not have a label that reads use mobil; instead, there is a label that says use oil that complies with API 4. I would think that these type of oil are rotella T4, Delo CK4 and Mobil delvac 1300. Mobil does not say 4 anywhere, but the label talks about it. Not very convincing to my perception of Mobil.

I agree with you farmer. The reason I ask the community is because I was told that the engine is designed to work with Mobil. I disagreed, but didn't want to say anything because Mobil is good oil, but not to the point to cast a shadow over the competition. All three major brands are strong. I like Chevron Delo that oil holds on a Cummins well during the summer with no Lucas.

The ISX. Prefers delvac or delo. And the model years I drove. Had a label on the frame stating delvac.
Smooth running engine. Less gasket leaks. Better mpg. Runs cooler and cools down faster. Slowest consumption.

Nothing else really works. Unless you don't mind a noisy engine, and adding oil and spending more on fuel.

I don't know about the detroit and cat engines.

    crucar1800 Thanks this.
