Gonna keep tabs on this thread. I am in a similar boat where I got someone interested in me and trying to leave a job that I am on very good terms with. But money is money. I am not there for the experience. The owners of the company are ballin and I can't even afford their ridiculous insurance plans.

Keep checking in periodically. The TMs are busy, often juggling multiple duties and even acting as sales people and checking in personally with customers.

Hardly anyone ever "fails" that test you're talking about. The only reason I could see why you possibly would not get hired is if they have a dockworker who got his class B and is moving into that straight truck. Do you have your hazmat already?

Given that context I definitely wouldn't tell them you'll have to wait until mid-June to start. They will put someone in that truck before then, and our turnover is basically nonexistent. We're heading into the peak season and it'll require all hands on deck.

I gave two weeks notice, but I would've given one if they asked me to come over sooner. Knowing what I know now, I would've dropped everything and started the very next day if I had to. My TM was tolerant of 2 weeks, but I doubt he would've been cool with waiting 2 months.

That's exactly what happened to me. Gave them way too much of a heads up and they had a replacement lined up for me long before I intended to officially leave.

I am doing the two weeks notice here in a bit. It's standard and it avoids me burning any Bridges should I have to come back.

You’re right. They called me back yesterday and set up a face to face interview. Yeah I have hazmat and tanker.

They sound like a great carrier. Hopefully they’re cool with giving a 2 week notice, but if not I’ll just do what I have to do. Don’t want this opportunity to get away from me.

Well here is what I would do, go through the interview process, get a confirmed offer and then go to your boss and tell them what they are offering and see what they can do for you to counter that offer.

I have a driver who worked at a die shop, he was their only driver and started at $15 an hour which was far below what the market here was paying, he got a raise to $16 after 18 months. About the three year mark he was offered a job paying $21 at one of their customers, didn't even ask, so out of respect he told the owner of the die shop and they said they will give him another raise to $16.50 so he told them that day was his last day. He worked there for four years and then went into otr.

He should be fine with that. It takes a lot longer to find someone and put them through the process than two weeks, so you should be fine. They had no problem with me giving two weeks and several of the other guys I work with gave two weeks after they were given their offer. I'm like you, I always wanted to be respectful and not burn any bridges, so I get it.

I remember when I mentioned to my terminal manager that I really wanted to give my employer 2 weeks notice, he said something like of course, I would want that same courtesy if you chose to leave here. Then we nailed down a start date and I gave my notice. Obviously I can't guarantee every terminal manager is as cool as mine is, but if that's any indication you should have no problem.

Had an interview yesterday and at the end he asks if we hire you how soon can you start. Told him need to give two weeks notice and go from there. He says good that's what I want to hear, I would question your character if you said tomorrow.

Things are going pretty well. Interview went well, took a road test and did fine the had a Skype interview with the regional manager. Nothing is set in stone, the TM made sure to tell me that, but I’m feeling pretty good about it.
