At a POE in Wy,they had 2 non English speaking drivers with no permits. The DOT was pissed trying to communicate with them.Told them to get somebody to translate for them, and they weren’t going anywhere.

I haven’t read all the posts above.

I run the Vail Pass all the time, and I came down it yesterday. The area they repaved was impressive.

I thought about the crash the whole way down.

In my opinion and with my limited experience it’s difficult to see how he missed the run-a-way truck ramp, and how he couldn’t have been prepared with the amount signage and warnings. There’s a slight uphill before the last smaller down hill.

He was past the restricted speed area when the crash actually happened. That section always seems to back up on the right side with traffic exiting.

I believe he was saving his own neck without a thought about the lives in jeopardy.

The full extent of the law should be thrown at him and any and all truck malfunction rhetoric can be thrown out the window. I would’ve put that truck into a wall or off a cliff before I did what he did.

His epitaph should be that he saved countless lives by doing the right thing, instead he’ll rot in prison which we get to pay for.

There won’t be much jail time. The USA driver that got drunk in Limon and drove the wrong way on I-70 killing a little girl and her grandfather got seven years and was paroled after about three. If they prove the lack of intent, then he will skate away into the sunset.

All of you can argue till the cows come home about age, brake failure and driving off a cliff.
The bottom line is he had no idea what those big yellow signs said.

Oh, I don't know about that. Even this guy would have to know what the ramps were for, he figured he could just ride it out, he didn't plan on traffic stopped at the bottom. I guess in the old days, that's when a CB was imperative.

Go to 2:15 but was this suicide? He was floored on the shoulder/emergency lane with gridlock - WTF? This is insane...There's no way this wasn't intentional. Mental disorder?

No, it wasn't intentional, and we can't think like that. This is simply something that went wrong, and escalated to disastrous levels.

I don't think it was intentional either. Could be he panicked when things started to go wrong. When that happens your brain doesn't work right and logical thinking ceases.
