You just described the "spare truck" at my 1st trucking job, a tandem and sans the 320 wb,, and we did run that truck pretty far away. Topped out at 58 mph ( speed limit was 55) and slept across the seats.![]()

The big problem with an old Mack running otr, is dealerships are few and far between, and no parts available except for dealers. There was a valid reason the old west coast macks did not run mack components.
D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
500 V8 Mack engine. Not the creature comforts
of a current modern truck, but pulls like a scalded rhino and built like an anvil.NYCgorilla, Intothesunset and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -

Volvo has owned Mack since 2000. The later models are ok, just basically a Volvo.
You just can’t confuse the later models with the Mack reputation of old, but I guess that is pretty much the same with all the brands. -
I remember the macks used to be a great work truck and that's what they good for nothing fancy just a good reliable work truck but that was years ago, My uncle used to own 2 in his fleet had only minor issues arise after 600k miles put 2 million miles on each truck before he retired them he replaced everything just about as they went.
He eventually went with Kenworth he had one Peterbilt but he sold that maybe a year later after issues with it. He would never go with certain companies like Volvo from his personal experiences with them. To a company driver or rookie he would say good truck, maintenance he would stay away from and safety reasons.x1Heavy Thanks this.
