I’d get a lawyer and fight that ticket. It depends on your insurance policy but I wouldn’t be surprised if your insurance went up. Normal car insurance.

I've always thought that would be a hassle for a woman. I see many women either have it real loose, or around the bottom of their boobs, defeating the purpose of a shoulder belt. Besides, I thought only a lap belt was required. I think it's pretty crummy of an officer to give a citation for that. I bet it was a man.

I would talk to a lawyer myself.
A seat belt ticket is now classified as a safety violation, and will make your insurance go up.
I got one without even a fine. and the insurance on my log truck tried to double it, I had to change insurance companies but I still have to pay 3.grand a year more because of it, That is just for the one truck. I wound up leasing my other truck on with a carrier and running under their numbers and insurance.

If the insurance charges me for 5 years before the ticket gets off my record, I figure that ticket with no fine, in my pickup cost me 15 grand, plus my personal vehicles went up too.

That's a BS ticket, where did it happen? I wouldn't hire a lawyer but I would definitely talk to the prosecutor. That's definitely a cop with nothing to do, or he's trying to meet his quota. Seems like it's easier to write a trucker than go after somebody with say, a phone stuck in their hand, what a waste of resources. As far as comfort goes try putting a pad on the belt, might help.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Motor Carrier Financial and Operating Statistics (F&OS) Program collects annual data from motor carriers of property and passengers that meet the applicability requirements listed in the table below. The program collects balance sheet and income statement data along with information on tonnage, mileage, employees, transportation equipment and other related items, but there are no explicit safety data items. The F&OS data are used by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), other government agencies, trucking associations, insurance companies, consultants, law firms, academia, trade publications, and others. Under 49 CFR 369.10 unless otherwise provided by law, "the data contained in the report(s)...shall be made publicly available."

So it is no wonder why a loose seat belt is a thing and to call it a "safety" violation is funny, like they care. It's like watching the money roll down the highway, all you have to do stop it to get some. Hell, they even made funnels for it to go through (weigh stations). In case you don't have prepass, we put a camera at the beginning of the ramp so we can run your numbers before you get to the scale.

All the greed, bs, etc made me decide last night to shut it down. Have the mc-150 filled out, with the "out of business" bullet checked. Just struggling with sending it in ....lol.

I will say it is a bs ticket too. but it sounds like it was dot during an inspection, not some random cop. I have heard of improper use of seatbelt tickets before. I still say they are BS though.

I'm told I am a mean guy and as one I am going to offer some advice ... fight this bs ticket.

My wife got one when she was stopped at a light and pulled the seat belt away from her chest for comfort, when she pulled away, the cop next to her (female one) watched her and saw that she didn't retighten it. She scared the crap out of my wife by telling her it was serious and she is going to get points on her license. Lawyer handled it, went to court with my wife and the judge said the ticket is bullsh.... his words ... tossing it.
