Ah, that's too bad. Kinda figured you were screwed when the buyout happened.

Can always come back to Magnum if you didn't burn your bridges. Reefer and a recession coming.

Besides, being part of the Daseke family of companies isn't the problem. When we were bought, Mr. Moore retired and everyone below him moved up a link in the chain of command. While our leaders probably know more about hauling, securing and handling glass, I think they're in over their head when it comes to running a trucking company. I know I couldn't begin to do it, so that's why I never went down that career path.

Could part of they problem be you are bidding against other Daseke companies for the same freight?

Sometimes these companies make absolutely zero sense.
I was a dedicated account manager at Schneider. I had more freight than the number of drivers I was allowed to have. This was during the freight recession.
Regional and OTR divisions were calling drivers telling them not to come in because they had no freight.
My desk was next to the Southeast regional director and every day I would offer him the excess freight I had and he refused it every time. Same went with the OTR division. Decent freight 2-3 stops all stores so quick unloads and round trips.
I had to broker those which cost me more than giving them the freight.

Actually, we're starting to pull Wylie freight out of TX as back haul loads instead of deadheading. So being part of the Daseke family is kinda helping, at least right now. The problem has a lot to do with the reluctant attitude to pull glass in larger amounts for anyone but AGC. We are finally starting to pull more Pilkington, and there is scuttlebutt about some sort of west coast deal in the works...but nothing official. A friend took a load to San Antonio and after he was empty, they routed him to Houston to pick up granite coming back to the KC area. And they were pestering him hourly about whether or not he was gonna be on time for the pick up. He arrived 2 hours early and it took them until 4 hours after his pickup time to get it loaded. My DM said when he was with the glass division of Schneider, they tried hauling marble and granite. He said it tore up the equipment too bad, so they quit.

Mr. Moore tried backhauling loads before and it didn't work out because of the delays getting loads picked up and delivered and then not having enough hours to move glass once they got back to the yard. The Canadians have a phrase that fits what is going on over here right now...it's a real Gong Show.

Understand the backhaul. They wanted us to start doing backhauls out of Florida back to Atlanta. It was a revenue sharing deal, we already got paid empty coming back, split the revenue 50/50 on the back haul. 85 cents a mile was about it and 6-8 hours to get reloaded. We had no trucks back to pull the store freight. This lasted about 6 weeks before they scrapped it.
