Between @starmac and you, that's the FIRST time I ever heard of that but it's a GREAT idea. I've always preferred trying to secure a load from both sides instead of only 1. Whether by alternating ratchets or binders, but with winches on both sides?....sometimes you truckdrivers amaze me!

As for a headache rack, I would prefer an enclosed rack...keep the weather off of all your stuff. I'm not a big fan of cabinet racks though. Some of our trucks are running enclosed racks with a roll up door on them. I think they're pretty slick but I don't have any first hand experience with one...

I would go for the last one. I had 2 steel tarps also and probably used them the most. I ended up not carrying the 8' drop tarps after a while. I always had a load that either didn't need 8' drops or only needed the steel tarps.

Tarping sucks big time. Especially when it's 10 degrees and you're trying to roll them up

Tri City Canvas in Granite City has good stuff for good prices.

They have felt pads they can grommet the edges that save tarps - and I’ve destruction tested it. A roll is 15’ wide, however long you need.

I like a good 36” crowbar - surprises me how often I use it. Also cheap cordless drill, sawzall and circular saw.

    Wood chocks.

I bought 3/8th chain and binders and regret it - 5/16” is plenty, when you consider WLL of securement points on trailer.

    I rarely have a need for 8’drop. I’d go 6’ , but with extra d-ring rows.

What do you do when you have freight right above your tires that need securement?

The hostlers at the company I haul freight for are terrible about having a winch right above a tire, totally clueless. they are sliders, and 99% of the time it would have been in a better place, on the load, to have moved it a foot anyway.
