@Lysdexis mine used to be hard to start. Long cranks. Never did start and die though, once it started it stayed started. My problem went away after I put new heads on. One of em must’ve had a crack that didn’t leak fuel to the outside, but sucked air. I had already tried everything else and given up.
James is giving you excellent advice. Try everything he is telling ya and hopefully one of them will fix it and it won’t come to needing heads.

Did you change fuel filter when you bought it or not, if not - start there.
One fuel filter only? Mine was same. FS1000 - I believe the ‘S’ denotes ‘Water separator’. Wee tap on the bottom to drain water.
Check the o-ring is present AND old one removed when you change.
Cracked fuel filter housing possible, one more thought - the check valve behind the ECM - possibly wrong restriction - did previous owner put in wrong part?
You probably already know, but carry 3 filters, wrench and gallon can of diesel at all times.
@jamespmack has you covered I think, I’m not a mechanic but I’ve had/helped with a few fuel issues owning that N14. -
