Hello everyone, im thinking of buying a truck from lone mountain. I like the cascadias, only 5k down and around 400k miles. I was wondering how much money should i have in the bank AFTER the down payment? I'm currently a company driver, making 44 cpm, but i also hear i can go to landster and work as a fleet driver if i don't have a truck. This sounds good to me so i can learn how to use their load boards, but im wondering if anyone knows how much i would be getting paid? Is there anywhere that i can look up all the fleet owners from landstar that are hiring so i can get an idea of the pay? I'd like to save up enough to get my own truck. Thx in advance!

    Johny41 and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

Yes there is guys running fleets under landstars. U would have to go work for one of them . @Dave_in_AZ . runs under landstar and has drivers working for his fleet, i believe he will even set u up and be able to own the truck . i saw a post on craigslist of guys hiring for landstar fleets as well, just look around and you will be able to find something

I wouldnt buy a truck unless I was able to ALWAYS have $25,000 to $40,000 of cash available on a moments notice.

10 - 15 K cash in the bank and 10-15K credit available e.g. credit cards, if leased on and settlements paid weekly.

Thx for the replies. Now if i got a 2017 cascadia, with 1-2 yr remaining warranty, could i start with less $$ in the bank? Does the manufacturer warranty cover all the high price repairs?

    D.Tibbitt Thanks this.

Yea just go "buy" a truck with only 5k down and the high paying freight will just fall in your lap.

Stop listening to idiots at the truck stop lunch counter. The ones that boast about how much money they make are the ones broke as F.

The 2017s are 10k down, but have fewer miles and warranty. Im just trying to figure the cheapest way to get into the company, to earn more than i get as a company driver. A lot of you guys act like 50k in the bank is mandatory, but for a company driver starting with 1-2k would take forever. There has to be a crossover to higher earning vs repairs.
So, im thinking 10k down payment on a 2017 cascadia with about 200k miles and a 1-2 year warranty, plus about 10k in bank...
Does this sound do-able? Side note: i have no mortgage or family, etc and usually stay otr about 2-3 months at a time.

Prominent reason for business failure - under capitalization.

Majority of truck repossessions take place . . , at the workshop.

I started with a cash truck, 30k financed trailer, and 30k available funds - cash/credit.

    5 years in, with LS.

This year ain’t the greatest to start on the back foot.

Depends on what craps out.... make sure it’s got coverage on the emissions system. Also remember just because the repairs might be covered the payment is still due.

And downtime will kill you....... 2-3 days to get into some dopey dealer’s shop , 2-3 days waiting for parts and a day or two to install. A week or more up in smoke.
