The nice thing about FedEx is the minimum qualifications are clear as day on the job postings.

City or Road Driver: You need a Class A CDL with doubles, hazmat, tanker and at least 1 year of experience in the last 3 years

Driver Apprentice: Just need a CDL permit. If you have a CDL but not the right class, not enough experience, or not enough recent experience, you'll need apply for the Apprentice position.

Freight Handler: Dock worker position with no experience required. Full time starts in the low $20s/hr, part time around $16/hr (the job posting will clearly state full or part time and what shift). Not guaranteed to become a driver and there is no potential timeline, but if they do offer an apprentice position they are required to look at internal candidates first.

I had a wtf moment the first time I saw a CR England daycab. And the second and third times too...thought I was seeing things. They use them around here to haul reefer containers. I've only seen them at their drop lot, so no clue where they come from or go to.

All mega carriers have them. Just might not be in all areas.

If Swift, for example, has contracts to pull 3 trailers a day from a customer, and they want to run live loads with scheduled appointments, those will likely be picked up by otr guys. If they have a customer where they pull out 25/30 trailers a day, at a facility with 7 dock doors, and other carriers that pick up as well, on a fcfs basis, they probably have a day cab guy running shuttles from a Swift yard to and from the customer, pulling out trailers as fast as they get loaded.

The swift one I saw was in Riverview about 75 miles away from Ocala and I'm guessing that's where it came from because I can't think of another swift yard anywhere around here.

Some of them might but I think a lot of Greyhound drivers do lay over routes with time spent in hotels.
