I personally know two people who owned them. Almost went bankrupt. The first sold it and went back to being a company driver, another traded it in for a new Cascadia

why would volvo stop making the d16 if it was any good...?

Now ask yourself WHY did it need a inframe at 700k....?
My d12 that I just parked has 1,397 000 and still runs.

I own a Volvo with the D12 approaching 1.1 million. Doesn’t burn any oil, has all of its power, and never even had so much as a valve adjustment. My mechanic told me in the 15 years he’s been in business he’s never had to in frame one. Ever. As far as I’m concerned it’s the most reliable cost efficient engine ever made. The only flaws it has are wire harness on ds and front cover leak oil after 800,000 plus thousand miles. Who cares.

I have no experience with the D16. I run the mountains here in Colorado with a 475hp D13 . Every time I'm climbing with a heavy load I wish I had more power. However, I'm averaging 7.3 mpg and other than the fuel injector/ cup issues it's a solid motor.
    If I had a choice I'd probably run a pre DEF D12.

the reason as to why it needed the imframe was to bring it current with all of the updated stuff from volvo.... the updated cups the updated idler gears the updated turbo ect

this is what i dont understand you have a d13 its supposed to be so good compared to the d16 but as far as i can tell the people that i have talked to the d13 has more injector and cup issues today than the d16 does....
