Cummins has there own set of issues. Like fuel pumps eating them selfs and junking they engine along with the crank. Lots of broken rods with holes in the block. Carbon packing rings and lets not forget about the flat cams....... oh yea the notorious flat cams.

same long line of emissions issues as the rest of them.

one of ours ate a fuel pump out of warranty at 360k miles $48k was the bill. Took at least 8 weeks the first time they fixed it. 3 more times in the shop till it ran right again. So we will call it a solid 10 weeks.

    Mine ate a cam

guy up the street put a piston through the block sitting in the dock idleing.

He said the biggest POS o/o trucks.

Somehow. I don't think you guys with the nicest, cleanest, tightest trucks. Fit in to that category.

I run a 20 yearold truck with about 1.6mill on frame and cab under my authority. I would put it up against any modern truck for reliability and efficiency.

Being in business for myself, if the new trucks were a improvement over mine, I would have one. But so far they are not.

I think both sides of this can be true. Ragbag owner operators work under the industry standard and their trucks are sometimes **literally** held together by baling wire, duct tape, and bungie straps. Large Car owner operators care so much for their trucks that they are in danger of a coronary if they have to park their baby on a gravel lot.

Owner ops that do not maintain their trucks, are generally very short lived, it is what it is. You might see some that cosmetically are not all that well kept, but an oo can not afford to be breaking down on the road and stay in business at all, there is just not enough money in the business to support a ragged truck, period. Now you might see some local junk running, and not getting far from home, but otr oo trucks are usually much better maintained than fleet trucks. Where oo's get in trouble is when they start to thinking they need more trucks, and become fleet owners with hired drivers, then maintenance becomes a problem.

Not 1 truck but, all ISX’s I have first hand experience with.
Mine was the one with the bad camshaft (2001) I just wound up replacing the motor with a Cummins reman.
To fix the camshaft correctly would of cost close to $12k

Complete crate motor was only $22k.
Cam was bad at 750k miles. I kept driving it to 835 when I put the motor in. Cam looked exactly the same when I pulled it.

The bad fuel pump was a 2013 company truck that ruined the engine.

Another of the company 2013 trucks blew a head gasket before 400k miles

The one that put a hole in the block was an early 2000’s Neighbor farm truck. Just sitting there idleing. I towed him home with a rope.

Point was they all got problems. It wasn’t just dd15’s

Our company trucks are Paccar engines now. Boss was die hard Cummins guy. But them 2013 trucks made him cry.

My truck with the crate engine has over 200k miles on it now with only oil changes so far. upload_2019-10-25_21-40-18.jpeg

How about that. Haven’t had a lick of trouble with our 2008 except for typical emissions crap....EGR coolers, doser valves and DPF....but there has been plenty of that

Had engine rebuilt and have about 5500 miles. Still running strong but fuel mileage is ####. Must be the 40 plus MpH winds.

We had a few 2013 ISX that only had emissions problems too. Well I should say no “long block” problems.
    Plenty of other problems though.

I’m sure there are good ones out there? If I didn’t feel that way I wouldn’t of bough a new one for my truck? Engine cost more than the truck is worth.

I will say we got a 2005 cat twin turbo with about 1.5 million miles that just keeps running. Pulled the pan to fix an oil leak a couple years ago and a found a bolt head from a main cap in the bottom. Put a new bolt in and a new pan gasket and it’s still pulling freight. That thing has been the most reliable of all the trucks I’ve known.
