    Yeah at first I came across MANY failure stories and it turned me off the idea. But reading freightwipper's thread (before he left Schneider), watching YouTube videos from LP operators with their individual experiences and scouring a large pool of advice, I feel that I am as prepared as I can get without actually looking at the load board myself. Will it be easy? I don't think so. Will I miss sleeping in my own bed like I had before? Definitely. Will it be worth it? I'm banking on it!

    I would imagine so. CDL experience is otr experience in my book. Whether it's spent driving cross country, loading and unloading hazmat locally on a daily basis, or delivering 10-15 stops a day with a lift gate trailer. Fact is I did all of that while under DOT regulation. Some companies value hazmat experience as you're presumably well-versed in the additional intricacies of hauling it.

    I'm in my sixth year and it is easily doable. HOWEVER with that said......if you can ever swing it .... get your next truck, purchase or lease, thru a dealer. There are programs "zero sum" leases or something like that, where the lease is five years, and is "zero" at the end of the lease. If you have the down payment, and have decent credit, your "monthly" payments will be much lower for the same amount of credit = more money for you. Just something to consider next time around if that works for you. Keep us posted? Anyways good luck OP.

    Thanks man I appreciate the advice. Realistically though, after the 3 year lease is up I plan to return to LTL trucking. Being terminated from my last job essentially made me damaged goods. The daycab jobs I've applied to aside from Schneider haven't contacted me or returned my calls and emails, so I'm using this as measure to rescue my career in a way.

    This doesn't mean becoming a lease operator was my last resort though, that would have been retreating back to my parents house in *GULP* California. Looking back I think I should have joined Schneider as a company driver from the start, then transitioned to LP rather than sign with Werner. But then again hindsight is 20/20. I'd be happiest doing LTL but I believe I'll have alot of fun being in sleeper truck again.
