Four to six inches, you don't want trailer up against the dock and you don't want too far away.

On the practical level I agree with you...

However, who is responsible for poorly layed out truck stops, and shipping/recieving wharehouses??? Moving forward it will probably be guys that play alot of video games. At least this guy is asking the guys that really know because he want his game to be realistic and accurate. Give the guy credit for wanting to get it right. Even if it is a virtual scenario.

Not nice to dis flatbedders, just because door slammers aren’t real truckers.

    Ideally..
Close enough so the forklift guy can get a good launch off the dock plate to ram the pallet thru the nose of the trailer

    Coffey and shogun Thank this.

You drive for Mawson & Mawson? :D

My trailer is a ex M&M trailer, one reason I hated buying it was the rear dock bumpers gone, and the corners beat to hell lol. Seen 2 other trailers of M&M and they were the same way!

It depends on your trailer floor type, whether or not your trailer has rubber bumps, and the type of dock. In my Utility reefer trailer, the rubber bumps must be touching the dock. The problem I have is my rubber bumps are too long and the floor plate is a few inches inside the trailer. I think dry van trailers don’t have this problem.

This is me at my first stop today. It takes a lot longer to unload with that gap, but I don’t risk hitting the dock.
