Actually, we had a conversation with them about the price of the head. The Freightliner dealership said it confused them too, so they threw it back at their parts department and the price of the head came down by about 11k, so the price for the head and EGR cooler system replacement is down to about 20-22k.
Taking the plunge. My journey as an O/O.

Me too.
Looks like I am going to spend Thanksgiving in a hotel room. Seriously doubt this is going to be handled before then. Which likely means it won't be handled over the weekend either, since the engine shop doesn't work weekends here.
It might happen. Maybe. If the work starts tomorrow and then continues on Friday, but I won't hold my breath on it.
This, boys and girls, is why you need money in the bank.fordconvert, 062, JonJon78 and 2 others Thank this. -
And normally you should already be in a rental and back to the money. However, your work doesn’t support that much additional running cost if I had to guess. Not hating just saying. You could be down another 2 weeks. Already wasted one.
-
Screw that. There has to be an enterprise near you. For the amount of money you have already spent on a hotel room you could of bought a round trip ticket home from the closest airport.Opus, fordconvert, Farmerbob1 and 3 others Thank this.

They weren't confused. I have been through this before. The only thing that matters is the warranty company and their deal worked out with the vendor. Your warranty company knows exactly how much parts and labor cost and that is exactly what they will pay, and not a shop rag more.
The original quote was ridiculous. Gonna be at least a week before all the work is approved. Probably two before you roll.
Your just witnessing how the game is played. No one cares what you think or how much money you are losing.
Not sure of you had a choice in the matter, but if it where mine I would have taken it to a independent Detroit shop. Not Freightliner.
Good luck Bob. I don't think you will be hosed, just going to take some time.Farmerbob1, 062, Midwest Trucker and 1 other person Thank this. -
I would’ve been on a plane to anywhere about a week ago.
Farmerbob1 and Opendeckin Thank this. -
Another problem is that this is just the beginning. After this problem is fixed, tons of other stuff will start braking soon. Like literally it will be one thing after another until you replace everything.
Farmerbob1 and Tug Toy Thank this. -
I know I've said it before but this is just another reason I like my older trucks. The way that game is played is a game I want no part of. Losing two weeks because the dealer shop wants to play games costs to much for me to play that game. I can find a dirt lot and slap a new head on in two days max.fordconvert, Farmerbob1, DieselDrivinDaddy and 1 other person Thank this.

Rent a one way car home its pretty inexpensive.
Farmerbob1 Thanks this. -
Last time I did the rental.
One way was more expensive then roundtrip. Because the car wasn't coming back.
I know. Nationwide locations. Doesn't make sense.
Doesn't matter on motorcycle rentals. But I guess cars matter.Farmerbob1 and 062 Thank this.
