The shop looks at those. Depending on their sense of humor they’ll either be amused or confused.

    Hi guys,
so big news, I was working this week at my second career at GFS as a substitute volume truck driver.
The volume truck driver core is not brand new, but it is a newer thing they started doing the past couple of years.

Certain customers don't really work well on the route trucks and it got to the point where a change was needed and they started the volume truck routes. It used to be the volume trucks really only did the stores and that was it, but in recent years they've been doing actual volume routes it's kind of like low grade sales service work only it's bumping docks and pulling off pallets.

I was almost a real volume driver till I got out bid by one guy it's how it goes. But I was since I started always a substitute for that job which I thought was kind of cool as I don't have that much seniority or whatever only about 5 years, so I would be one of the youngest people to hold that job, but anyhow this week I've been subbing our local volume route running at night. Haven't been sleeping real well, the night shift can be hard sometimes.

Anyhow, we had a management shift and a spot opened up for a low level manager, so I applied for it, they let me know about it today and I applied. Will see what they say.

I listed my credentials on the application:
5 years of service in March
Member Transpiration Team of the Year 2016
Member Division Team of the Year 2016
Gold Club (GFS Highest Award for rank and file employees) 2016
Top 5 heaviest routes quarter after quarter after quarter 3 years running now.
Support Staffer in Imperial and Aberdeen.
Support Staff 2016 Aberdeen, Sales Service
Support Staff 2017 Imperial Chain Division
Support Staff 2016 and 2017 Imperial Volume Drivers Core Volume/Transit Road Division
    April 2019 Transit Support Staffer

My boss is now the head transport boss and we had a switch around and that left a spot open and I they didn't ask, but they did tell me the job was posted, I they kind of planted that idea for low level manager seed to me before, so I'll see what happens, I'm not going to be heart broken if it doesn't happen, by no means, but I thought this is a step to furthering my career so mine as well do it.

The one of the nice thing about GFS and GFS has some good points to it, yeah we have some bad points, but so does every place, but we also have some really good points and the one nice thing is you can try stuff and if it doesn't work out or whatever you can always go back or apply for another job. It was funny I was worried what if I'm not good at this, then I thought wait a minute Michael, your a truck driver you can go literally right across the street to Dayton Freight and be on the night Line Haul to Columbus that same day.

Although chances our GFS would just give you a route or run and usually you get your pick of the litter.

So in a way if I get it, it I know it's a lot of pain in the rear end lower middle management stuff, but it'll be good to learn and see how the innards work and hopefully try to do some good with what little power I have.

Anyhow very windy tonight and I have to run to Pittsburgh in a couple hours. I'll see you all out there.

so, not me, but a buddy of mine runs line haul for Estes (a laydown route in a hotel, every other night). was building his set this morning (in snow covered Denver) lost his footing and the dolly ran into him.

turns out he broke his patella (kneecap). <shiver>

465 miles from home, can't get home until Friday (ride)

    Be careful out there.

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

So, here is some news the job I applied for in management won’t happen another guy who applied went through the companies leadership program, so it’s no choice they have to hire him they don’t have an option, so turns out this year at work I lost everything I bid on and what’s funny was the Volume route I was Managements pick on that one, but seniority rules bumped that.

The other job I don’t care about as much although I think they were happy to have me apply that way they could have my application to bump maybe someone else out who they do not want.

Yesterday’s day consisted of 14 deliveries PLUS interline freight PLUS interline pickups PLUS 3 other pickups all a hundred miles from the yard AND on top of all that somebody there were going to get me to do some garbage pickup in the hood in Baltimore that I might not have been able to fit anyway.

Told them flat out I’m not doing it. Want to give me a day off for it, fine. Send one of the other 30 trucks already up that way.

Punched out at 11 hours as it was.

The idea that SOME drivers have to work double time so others can lay down all day doesn’t fly with me, and I rolled back in at 4:30 only to find the driver with the 9:30 AM start that doesn’t go more than 5 miles from the yard already punched out and gone.

I hate to be difficult, but some things you simply have to put your foot down on, and nobody’s running me to death so somebody else can get catered to while I go out of MY way to do THEIR work.
