nah, lots of food service use electric pallet jacks and a lift gate and they work fine being "cold" all day and night.

some of the trailers even had jacks you could plug it in to keep it charged up. (since they work great when new but batteries degrade and companies too cheap to fix)

We had a MHE dealer let us demo one of their electric jacks for a week. As you stated, once you get to the tail end of the trailer, they are useless and even hazardous to use. One wrong step and you can pinch yourself against the wall. Everyone universally didn't like it so we never bought them. Not even one for backup purposes.

@Buckeye91 we have electric jacks and they are okay I guess but as they get older and start working like crap (they get zero maintenance) you wish you had a manual jack. We have the in trailer chargers that run off the lift gate batteries like at @LoneCowboy was talking about but I don't think a high percentage of them even work anymore like he was saying. When you are in a trailer loaded to the tail they can be scary like @road_runner said because they can be hard to control when you only have 2' of trailer and 10' of gate the work with (see earlier statement about lack of maintenance and how none of them work like they should lol). They are nice with 104 case pallets but that's about it for me.

This truck hauls ### lol. F a Freightliner, I'm all about the olde Sterling lyfe now. I haven't driven one of these in quite a while so I forgot how good they are. A huge plus is the aftermarket ac will freeze you out.

I saw a R&L driver that had something similar to this. He was able to use the motor on it when he wanted but he could turn it off and it had a manual mode that made it a regular pallet jack. I wanted one but the 3k price tag was a bit steep.

I believe R&L drivers are the ones that have to buy their own equipment, so there's proof that it's worth it to someone.

Yeah. @MACK E-6 made a mention of that a year or so ago. Holland is trying to encourage us to do the same. Things like a handtruck that I can use around the house to move crap around I can understand. But something as specific as a pallet jack that is only designed to move a customer's freight around and has no other application is where I draw the line. Something like that should be provided by the employer.
