Okay so please keep in mind that I'm not too smart when it comes to CB radios, I only know the dirt basics of them. My father bought me a refurbished 29 LTD classic when I started driving (about 5 months ago) and it worked great for about 2 months until the mic quit working. It would work at short distances but I noticed the needle on the meter wouldn't move when I keyed the mic. This is when the switch was in the SWR position. I bought a new mic about 2 weeks ago and it worked great, the needle moved like it did originally. Now 2 weeks later it's doing the same thing my last mic did. I'm guessing there's something wrong with the radio? Or could this also be caused by an antenna issue?

What brand mic? Mics fail all the time if you buy a cheap one.

It came with a Cobra mic, just the plain basic one. Then I bought a Cobra high gear dynamic mic for it

it is a refurbished unit, that can mean anything from a simple return and re-boxing, to a warranty issue, repaired and resold.

if you are able to return it to the seller, then do so, IF it has any warranty. but if it was sold with no warranty, you are out of luck.

i have bought refurbished desktop pc's from the maker, not a 3rd party, so there was always a waranty.

if your dad bought that cb from a site, that sells new and used and refurbished cb's, you will have to check for any warranty on what you have.

otherwise, we can all guess all day long as to the problem, so a cb shop will be the way to go. however, every time i went to a cb shop at a truck stop?

they always say., "leave it for a day or 2"...

what good does that do you, when you are 3,000 miles away..???

you many NEVER get back there.....

you might want to just get another cb, new, and srt it up and run with it as is, then take that used one to a shop near where you live, or mail it back to the seller, if they have a warranty, to fix it.

Are you running it in SWR mode?

    Wait

This is a mic issue not a cb issue so let's ask an important question, how do you store the mic?

    Do you let it hang?

Do you have the radio in a position where the mic has to be pulled to you?

Or do you put it up where there is no strain on the mic, especially where it plugs into the radio?

    fishonron and slim6596 Thank this.

i have cobra 29. The mic that came with it crapped out after 3 weeks. Then i bought a replacement, it crapped out not soon after. Im a local dump trucker. Im on the cb all day long work related and casual talk. Bought myself a Astatic mic, and it doesnt skip a beat and havent had problems since. Spend the 40 bucks and get the astatic and be done with your problems.

Yes it was a refurb, I'm not sure if it has a warrant or not. I'll check with him

The radio itself is mounted directly behind the middle dome light on the (kind of) headliner of the truck. It's in a 379 Pete. The mic is hung on the right side of the radio in the stock holder. Since the radio is in front of me I do have to reach and pull the mic back towards me

Yes and the needle doesn't move when the mic is keyed or when I talk into it. In S/RF it goes way up to the calibration mark. I'm clueless as to what the difference is
