2017-219 (three years of my own authority costs)

Total Mileage: 275 788 (92 000 miles per year average)
    Loaded: 249 559
    Deadhead 26 229

Fuel: $117,310.11 (gal: 43,406 Avg Price: 2.70, cost per mile 0.43)
Maintenance: $54,308.48 (cost per mile 0.20)
Truck Payment: none (paid for before 2017)
    Trailer Loan: $20,380.15
    Tollways: $23,934.77
    Insurance: $34.031.01
    Licenses&Tax: $12,851.58
Parking: $10,552.21 (stationary parking lease + prime parking when OTR)
    Scales: $ 879.50
Office Expenses $6,986.79 (here come computers, load boards, ELDs)
    Fees & Intersts: $7,516
    Communication: $6,400
    Other: $1,177.03

    Total: $288,611.63 -- avg: $96, 204

cost per mile 1.05 (before I pay the driver or myself)

Considering all the costs involved, in order for the whole venture to make a financial sense 5K - 6K gross is a must! Or grossing well over 200K a year. And that's by running less than 3K miles per week. Anything else is a shortfall, which is not the same as failure but the reward is too small for all the risk and effort input.

The only thing that doesn't jive for me is the over 10k for parking. That blows my mind. O couldn't imagine $1000/yr in parking, let alone 3x's that.

kenn2632, crocky, Cabinover101 and 4 others Thank this.

Thank you, but even if you don't have a truck payment, your depreciation of the truck is a real cost that should be included.

Upinsmoke, daf105paccar and ulenie Thank this.

He lives in Chicago. You won't find a space for less than $150 per month to park

Not a stupid expense if it's required to efficiently operate the business.
