Close call in the fog outside Lubbock, TX

    Yeah if you watch That video closely you can see debris in the road, I understand what you mean about the fog, but either way, that was a disaster waiting to happen! Don't know if everyone seen the other video of all the carnage in the other lanes going the other way!!

    Yeah, a disaster waiting to happen with a loaded semi going 60 mph in the fog. I'm sorry, there's no excuse for this. In the midwest, fog was a constant concern, I dealt with a LOT of fog, night was the worst, and I could MAYBE see this happening at night, but hello, it's your job, or it was, to not run into anything, even in the fog, and this schmuck should have been going 35 mph TOPS. No excuse, don't stand up for this idiot.

    Probably more like 70 mph, but no I'm not standing up for him. What I'm saying is there's so much wrong with this whole situation if you see all of the accident pile up that happened before this ever happened in the other videos, that's why the news crew was there. If they were there already why in the world didn't they have some traffic control/warning slowing down the speeding traffic

    I know, I've always noticed, how focused these emergency crews are on the incident at hand, they are totally oblivious to what could be coming up. I tried recovery, and it wasn't for me. Some rumble sticks 1/4 mile down the road, cruiser with lights on, ANYTHING, but for some reason, hind sight wins out on these situations.

    The fog does get surprisingly atrocious out here. I thought after moving away from CA several years ago, I wouldn't be facing something that was common along the coasts. And then I was proven wrong on several occasions. No accidents for me. But it's always a game of Russian Roulette when you're sitting at a two way stop sign at a highway intersection and you can't see vehicles running through the fog on the highway with no stop sign or light in their direction of travel.

    Just goes to show these new trucks coming online need to have the heads up display that can see through the fog and can actively brake if you don’t respond accordingly. We already have the technology all they have to do is start using it.

    I usually just drive 10-20 mph below and open my windows to listen for any oncoming traffic at those intersections. Treat it like HAZMAT rules at a RR crossing.

    Yeah, morons can't do it themselves. One of the dumbest news articles I saw, it said, "Cars involved in accidents with crash avoidance systems, are twice as expensive to repair",,,um, hello, isn't that what the "crash avoidance" system is suppose to do?:biggrin_25526:

    You know as well as I do that these trucks don’t stop on a dime. Some idiot does a brake check on a truck the system will respond but ultimately physics determines if there is going to be a collision or not. They don’t prevent all accidents, they make them fewer in number and less severe.

    It will be the next top five things on the agenda to 'improve' safety in trucking along with mandated driver and road facing cameras lane control fog line buzzers and 65 max speed governors in all trucks.

    Truckers have proven they will roll over and play dead to any mandates that come down the pike as we have seen in the ELD mandate.
