Ive gotten hit as well. You would think you are a dead man from that brick coming through. But a new glass and a night of drinking and dancing plus a fight or two takes care of that horrible scare.

The windshield won’t fall apart. Not illegal unless another crack starts and intersects it. At least that’s what the DOT guy told me when inspecting a truck. Had a crack from one side to the other at the bottom of the windshield. It happens very often in this area.

This is why it is only an automatic OOS, regardless of location, in §393.60(c)(2) if 2 cracks intersect with one another.
Two intersecting cracks will create a massive pressure point on the inside of the windshield at the intersection and compromise the strength. While a cracked exterior window will result in some loss of strength it is not a massive risk. -
It could. I’ve driven cars with a large crack and haven’t fixed it for months because of being broke. Honestly I doubt it will shatter UNLESS it gets another rock then it’s very likely it could fail. Don’t gamble just bite the bullet and get it changed.

You need to replace it.JC1971 Thanks this. -
Aside from safety regulations, the windshield will probably hold together for a long time, but in the event you catch a big rock, a chunk of ice, a deer, a moose, a large bird or other flying object that might fall off another vehicle, your windshield is already weakened and theres a better chance of whatever you hit making it's way through the windshield and into the cab where you happen to be sitting.

My company replaces my windshield every few months after multiple bullseyes. Only problem is the guy who does them is sloppy. ALWAYS get that annoying AF wind whistle. The channel has to be cleared and cleaned smooth which I’m assuming our guy does half arsed. Next one I’ll see if they have anyone else that can do it.
