Here in Michigan trucking companies are considered "rolling tax" and are sales tax exempt (equipment, tires, parts, e. t. c).
To my surprise a lot of local folks I meet do not know about.
Do you know about it and do you have it in your state?

In Pennsylvania if you have your Trucking Authority you do not pay sales tax on parts, etc.
I think it's the same even if you only have your intrastate Authority.Rideandrepair, Dave_in_AZ and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
Missouri - yes. Fill out a form at each business and good to go.
Also exempt is sales tax on equipment, but they get you for property tax annually.Rideandrepair and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
Arizona, Washington, Oregon = yes.

in California if you buy parts out of state and don't pay sales tax there, use tax must be paid in California. no sales tax exemption if you buy parts in California. there is no sales/use tax on equipment that will be used in interstate commerce.

In Michigan, it is called a "rolling stock exemption" and only applies to trucks and equipment used for interstate trucking, not local or intrastate trucking. The truck side of the claim for the exemption in Michigan is at the sos office with proof of the truck used in interstate commerce, generally accepted is a contact from a carrier or proof of an authority.
Sales tax exemption for parts has to use Michigan treasury form 3372 for each vendor that a purchase parts are made that are affixed to the vehicle used in interstate commerce. There are exceptions to this, which I won't add. By the way i think the form can be used for a truck purchase but never did that.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -

what is sales tax??
Rideandrepair and stillwurkin Thank this. -
We have it and I use it in NY.
Of course when you go to use it everybody looks at you sideways because very few know about it.
Some will even argue with you about it.
I can’t imagine the millions of extra dollars spent in NY every year on sales tax because most don’t know about it.Rideandrepair, Dino soar, Midwest Trucker and 1 other person Thank this. -
We do not have a state sales tax, but some of the smaller towns do. The electric Co got busted da few years ago, they had been charging everybody in the general area sales tax on their electricity bill.,
it amounted to quite a bit of money.Rideandrepair and stillwurkin Thank this.
