Ok so this may take awhile to explain,
I got new brakes/drums all round installed on my truck (07 Freightliner Columbia) after I left the shop there is/was a shake in the steering while braking at about 45 mph.. so braking from 65 down was ok till I got to bout 45 then shakes like crazy.
So after a week I take it back to the shop and turns out my truck was spec'd with x30 drums, they get a set in put them on. No change .. so they call Freightliner in Orlando order new x30 drums for the front and x30 lightweights for the back and allllll new shoes. Installed... No change, .. went to another shop today they checked everything, bearings, kingpins, every engine mount trans mount body mounts, adjusted allllll the brakes and replaced the front slack adjusters (as a last resort) still shakes.
Tires were new back in October michelins wearing perfectly. They were stumped, I'm over 2500 into this now for a simple brake job. Steering does not shake while driving only braking .. help.
Help.

Could be an out of round drum, just because its new doesnt mean its good.
Could be a bad wheel bearing, but yes you said those were checked.
Try jacking up the front end and see which tire won't spin freely., if they both spin very lightly apply brakes and see which one can't be turnedEnglishMark Thanks this. -
This is just a wild guess because it's happened to me.
When the brake job was done, the drums were installed and then the air was released applying full brake to the drum that wasn't seated to the hub.
Then when the wheels were put back on it didn't make a complete seat because the brakes were already applied. Might want to check lug nuts too
Make any sense?shatteredsquare Thanks this. -
Judge we did that today, kingpins, bearings all good. These are the 3rd set of drums in 6 weeks .. law of averages says at least one set should of been good.
-
Yeah makes sense but we have installed 3 sets of drums now .. plus had the wheels off n on 3 times today, plus drums off today, shoes look great after 2 weeks no odd wear .. I'm stumped.. last resort is take it to Freightliner but I'm already 2500 into this6wheeler Thanks this.

Ok. Who did they brakes?
Were they put on backwards?
(Yes it can be done in a hurry and not paying attention)
Did you use new inserts and springs?
Or the old ones? -
If it only started when they did the brakes, one shoe is a little shorter, not much, inch maybe, if the first guy put it on wrong, then the next just followed suit, they could still be wrong.

If there is any rust or debris on the hub faces the drum will not sit completely flat to the hub and can cause a shutter upon brake application.
Also one of the aluminum hubs could be bent if they beat the old drums off with a sledge hammer.EnglishMark and spsauerland Thank this. -
Wait a second, how can brakes be put on backwards? There's no waypushbroom Thanks this.
