Hauling Dispatcher Brains

    This is a true dispatching/logistics nightmare...from yesterday...Friday.

    If you new guys can walk away from this post, with complete understanding of the situation. You're well on your way to a promising job as a truck driver.

    3 drivers, 3 locations. Try to stay with me here, as I weave the story. We're all friends, and gnashed this out on the phone with each other, as the details came into us.

    Driver #1 located in B'ham, AL -- Lives in central MS
    Driver #2 located in Memphis, TN -- Lives in N. MS
    Driver #3 located in New Orleans -- Lives in N. MS

    No specific order...just the details.

    Driver #2 is deaheaded to N. AL 227 miles for load going to Knoxville, TN for Monday delivery. And told to take it home for the weekend (which he passed on way to pick up) 155 miles the WRONG direction of load destination. Total 310 miles authorized OOR.

    Driver #3 is told to deadhead to S. MS location for load going to Shreveport, LA for Monday. Then take load to N.MS and drop in yard just outside of Memphis at secret yard location. Total authorized OOR to be determined.

    Just an FYI... Secret yard location = yard entrance hidden by dropped trailers from all NEW guys that hire on, so they can get their ### chewed out for dropping their trailers at wrong location.

    Driver #1 is told to deadhead home (162 miles), and relay an incoming load from driver #2 for Monday delivery. Driver #1 lives 110 miles south of where Driver #2 was told to drop trailer.

    Contacting dispatch corrected the drop location of loaded trailer, to the home terminal of driver #1. Which driver #3 passes on the way to top secret south of Memphis location and his house.

    Upon arrival, Driver #2 is immediately asked to spot trailer in door for loading. The company was about to EMPTY a loaded trailer, for a HOT load that needed to GO. There are no other trailers they can load.....

    Driver #1 contacts Driver #3 to gather information about load he will be picking up. Only to find out he has been instructed to take empty home...and drive to N.AL location on sunday...for load going to TX.

    And there are NO empty trailers.

    Lesson here::: Us old guys can figure this out. But you new guys may need a pencil and paper. This is normal, and we won't razz you for it. Because it can get confusing as hell....even for us old guys.

    THIS is the kind of #### we put up with all the time. I need a fifth of JD :biggrin_2552:

    I'm not an "old guy" and that sounded pretty normal to me...

    Except the part of doing it all close to home. But that's probably because all my experience is OTR.

    Isn't hauling dispatcher brains the same as hauling sailboat fuel?

    And here I thought the brains wieghed a few ounces less. At least sailboat fuel has SOME use.
