Montana was the original Autobahn state. No limits provided you had a stack of 5.00 bills so goes the story. which I understand was the fine of that time back then.

I examine today's German traffic at high speeds around trucks doing 60 at best and find it interesting that the two can coexist. 180 then down to 90 until past herd or clog and open back up to 180 again to get up and run.

We now only use yard move at customers, the railroad, depot's or our yard, we always tag the note line as to where we were. Occasionally someone will forget to hit the button and drive ridiculous miles on yard move. Then the boss catches it, oops. Not long ago, I had a yard move that was 6.5 hours, only drove 9 miles, the rest of the time was sitting at readability to get a chassis fixed, after 90 minutes they determined they couldn't fix it and needed to flip it, that took 4 hours to get authorized.

Depending on who their ELD provider is, there is an option where the yard move stops automatically if you go over 20 mph. The other option, which I personally use, will stop yard move once the engine is turned off. I like this one, but you always need to remember to change your status right before shutting down the engine or else, you have some log editing to do afterward because the ELD will put you on on-duty (no remark) if you forget to change it.

Now that I remember, I stopped using the 20 mph option because if you ever forget to change status after shutting down the engine, the yard move will continue, and unfortunately the yard move can only be edited to either PC or driving. The carrier can throw the yard move to a different (dummy) driver account, but this will show on the ELD logs as a “split.”

I was running emergency medical supplies yesterday and it turned into a 24 hour shift , not all of it was spent driving but it did suck all in all 750-800 miles.
