Definitely has, and my knees haha but that is something I haven't thought about and am glad that I came here to find things like this out. Very much appreciated. So would regional kind of, say, work a week then weekend off then start back on the Monday. I'm not expecting weekends off per day but just trying to see how an average work week is like for something like regional driving. Hmm I might have to maybe open my options up for when I get out because missing a week or work to do daddy and husband duties doesnt sound ideal.

@Chinatown Tyvm I will look into those companies and compare and research them

A week for me in my regional job pre covid 19 would be to call in available Monday morning. Get a load by lunch. Drive non stop two and half days. Deliver get reloaded drive non stop 2.5 days and get home dead tired Friday night. $1400 in the bank account next Wednesday.

But one little thing goes wrong mechanical issue, load not ready and then I may not get back till Sunday. No big deal except it messed up my restart and now I’m leaving home on Tuesday. Throw a dr appt or football game and your schedule is destroyed and you deal with it or take some time off so you can get back on schedule. Time off equals zero pay. Don’t get me wrong there’s a lot worse jobs but working 70 hours a week over and over and then taking unpaid time off just to be a normal human gets old quick especially for the wife and kids.

Your GI Bill will pay for CDL school. Go to a good one.
Once this covid19 stuff is over. If I were you. I'd seriously consider food service delivery. You're in good shape. Stay in good shape. Very good pay too. Home everyday. I'd be in this if I didn't have an old lower back injury. I'd go for it in a heartbeat.
I do Regional. I find it the best for me. I like it.

Get into flatbed and go OS/OW, not worth it anymore for new owner operators in dry van.

get into the upper echelon of trucking to have any sort of career guarantee.
Don’t mess with dry vans at all.

    Selva Thanks this.

    Same can be said trucking.

With a wife and little one - I’d look at other careers.

Too many times have I heard and seen regrets of OTR robbing time that can not be gained back with family.

Local - or LTL would be my only suggestions.

    Thanks for your service.
