But one little thing goes wrong mechanical issue, load not ready and then I may not get back till Sunday. No big deal except it messed up my restart and now I’m leaving home on Tuesday. Throw a dr appt or football game and your schedule is destroyed and you deal with it or take some time off so you can get back on schedule. Time off equals zero pay. Don’t get me wrong there’s a lot worse jobs but working 70 hours a week over and over and then taking unpaid time off just to be a normal human gets old quick especially for the wife and kids. -
Your GI Bill will pay for CDL school. Go to a good one.
Once this covid19 stuff is over. If I were you. I'd seriously consider food service delivery. You're in good shape. Stay in good shape. Very good pay too. Home everyday. I'd be in this if I didn't have an old lower back injury. I'd go for it in a heartbeat.
I do Regional. I find it the best for me. I like it.rachi Thanks this. -
Get into flatbed and go OS/OW, not worth it anymore for new owner operators in dry van.
get into the upper echelon of trucking to have any sort of career guarantee.
Don’t mess with dry vans at all.Selva Thanks this. -
With a wife and little one - I’d look at other careers.
Too many times have I heard and seen regrets of OTR robbing time that can not be gained back with family.
Local - or LTL would be my only suggestions.
Thanks for your service.
