Literally as I was preparing to put the truck in gear and roll this morning, it started an automatic regen cycle.

Not surprising, I just took a 34, and I usually have at least one auto regen during a 34, just annoying.

Thankfully the load today is an actual account load, not a scrub load, so I have leeway.

Yes, I know I can simply drive off and cancel it, but they normally only take a few minutes for the auto-regen cycles, and running at high rpm with a restricted airflow through the DPF system is a good way to damage the more fragile filter bits of the one-box unit.

In fact, the engine just went back to a standard idle now, so I'm off!

Well. My decision as to when to replace my drive tires has been made for me.

Lost the RFI drive at some point late in the driving day yesterday. Found the sidewall blown but the tread fully intact this morning.

Loves here in Memphis, TX has no used tires, and I am not putting one new tire on with 7 others that have 180k miles on them.

So. Going to put on a set of these off brand virgin drives. Doublecoin name brand.

Hopefully buying these off-brand tires won't be too terrible a mistake. They appear to have fairly aggressive tread, so I expect them to wear a bit faster, but I can deal with that. If I pay 3/4 of the cost of name brand drives and get around 3/4 the tire life, or even a bit less with more traction, I'll be more than satisfied.

Here's the tire. Was a recap, original tire was stamped 2013.

Shop says they saw no evidence that the tire failed due to road trash damage, and I do actually inspect my tires every morning, so best guess is that it simply blew out in a pothole due to age.

Rubber shouldn't be used after 5 years. And you used a 7 year old casing.

BTW. It's summertime. Very critical to maintain tire pressure if you're running recaps.

Update. The rim that the tire with weird wear was on was unbalanced. I had it checked. It was out by 6.

This DOES make sense. The tire had irregular wear, BUT the tire and rim together were balanced when I had it tested.

Not sure why I didn't make that connection earlier.

Let us know what fuel mileage does. Not saying it’ll be worse. I just really don’t know. Hadn’t used the off brand ones before.

Honestly that’s #### good use out of a Goodyear and recap at that.

I just want to make sure I’m picking up what your putting down. Are you saying that even if the wheel and tire are balanced together, that due to the wheel itself being out of balance that that made your tire wear funny? I have always thought of if they are balanced together that’s all that matters? I kinda can see what your saying though if I’m fact that is what your saying?

Maybe after he noticed the irregular wear they were balanced together? But at first they weren’t balanced because of the wheel. I could understand that once it wore the rubber off quicker being out of balance.

I’ll be interested in your fuel mileage with the new tires.......

Some people like double coin, I wouldn’t run them..... but I’ve got no first hand experience with them either.

I’d assume they were the cheapest option at the truck stop.......another example of don’t buy any maintenance at a truck stop. I know you have no choice on this deal
