One time I did a U-turn in St. Paul I called the police and they had no problem with it. Another time I did it on the highway near Claresholm, Alberta but I didn't call the police that time. I was empty and I saw a big dust cloud funneling towards the highway and I just made a U-turn because I thought I was going to get blown over if I drove through it.
Anyone ever get caught doing a u-turn on a public street?

I feel bad for just doing Michigan lefts. Trainer had me do a few u-turns; it’s something I try to avoid.
First one was on a rural county road and I just didn’t see anywhere for me to go around the block. Everything that turned off was gravel, and the road itself was supposed to gravel out in a few more miles. Second one, was in Michigan so that was actually legal?tommymonza Thanks this. -
Well....if you have a nice wide intersection, get in the left turn lane, when you get the left arrow, go a little farther into the intersection, turn completely around and head the other way. In this situation everyone else is stopped. They have a red light, except the other side making their left on green arrow. Proceed when safe to do so. Technically wouldn’t this be just an extended left turn at a controlled intersection?

I mean... I did my fair share of U-turns when I was with Swift, and they never said anything. My personal favorite was the time I took the wrong exit trying to double back after missing my exit, and almost went in the front gate of Fort Carson... fun times

I've done them a few times. However it was around 2am and nobody else on the road.

nope.....never caught because I never did one.
However, there are roads in North Carolina that are specifically set up for U turns......just the way they're built. Did those a few times.Farmerbob1 Thanks this. -
So, "Y" turns, same thing? IDK, I did plenty of U-turns, mostly because I had to. Low bridge, accident, bogus directions, bounced over many a curb. I don't recall any guff about it. Usually when that happened, I was pretty pissed, so anyone complaining might regret it, except a cop, of course. Don't break the law in front of a cop, like a couple months ago, I got a ticket for running a stop sign on my bicycle, but that's a different story.

If I remember right, the time to do a uturn safely for most trucks from beginning to end is a minimum of about 45 seconds.
