This right here. I only live 350 miles from KC and I'll bobtail or deadhead to him.

Well, got another issue to put on the back burner. Transmission bell housing seal is leaking a tiny bit. Not enough to drip or even require adding oil after six weeks since it was first noted, but it's something to watch.

Are there any oil additives that are safe for modern manual transmissions which I can add to the oil in the transmission to seal up a weeping seal? I do not want to add something that will cause some sensor or gadget in the transmission to hate me.

Are you sure it’s not the rear main seal leaking?

I don't agree with this. Trade-ins work at scale, because you eliminate the cost of maintenance besides having some PM guys at the terminal. If a truck breaks down, they send it off for warranty repairs and put the driver in a different truck.

When you're sitting at a hotel across from a dealership and waiting for that free warranty repair, you don't have another truck to drive, so you're not making money. And in my experience most warranty jobs done on newer trucks cost more in lost income than just paying out of pocket to order the part and do it yourself or have a shop get you in and out quickly.

Also older trucks don't break down more. It's how well you take care of your equipment and know what you're doing. I guarantee you that these "new better" trucks will never last 3+ million miles as these old mechanical CAT and Cummins and Detroit motors have and are still on the road.

    Not true.

When the truck is on a warranty you also have other types of warranties that allow replacement trucks through the warranty therefore you can still work and be making money. Old is old with new parts causing eventually other parts to work improper once one part is change (science). If 'OLD Trucks' were better than NEW Trucks then Mega fleets still would try to save a nickel & keep the older ones by buying new parts & keeping it going. Most Lease in bulk & and once 5 years are up return them for new ones whiles those who can't afford a New one buy out of sure faith hoping they find one that will last them without more expense repairs but its suckers mindset. No one in their right mind can ever believe old is better than new or your would never see new trucks being built (common sense). A piece of mind with a newer truck warrant is essential for any intelligent trucker once they can obtain it.

Buying out of sure faith that a truck will run good or not is step one to being a failure.

Like this guy got ripped off for $1,300 for batteries and is trying to justify it. It's just ignorance. Just stop hoping and dreaming and wishing and run an actual business for once and know what you're getting into.

I owned a old 1995 Pete that I bought in 2001 that ran alright. For the $12k I bought it for at the time and it was well over 790k. After 6 months it began costing more than it was worth. Never again, Only New... according to your logic senior citizens should be qualifying for the Olympics since Old is better Right?..lol..Impossible. I'm not a newby in this business & only use factual thinking intelligence. Thanks.

He only got ripped off in your mind. If you have to save money by doing your own repairs in order to be successful you're not a very good business man. I'm not a mechanic even though I have mechanical ability. I just prefer to pay someone who's job it is to fix trucks to do the job and I'll focus on my job. Plus I'd rather spend my free time living life not working on a truck.
