I sorry to see you are having such issues. That delay between schooling and getting hired on has been something that has tripped up new drivers for years. There is a rather small widow of opportunity after graduation and with the job market the way it is, I've been reading a number of posts that result in the same problems you are facing. Your options will be severely limited, as I am sure you are finding out.

Luvtheroad, don't get bummed out. Just start out anywhere (as long as they are a safe, reputable company). I started out at .19/mile with Swift. When I left them I was still only making .21/mile but went to JB. That was when JB first made their big pay increase so I was making something like .39/mile. I waited until I had over 2 years experience and then switched to Crete. Believe me, it will all work out if you just stay patient and plod along.
luvtheroad Thanks this. -
Hello all,
I am in the process of researching potential future employers since I will be starting truck school here pretty quick. From what I gather, CRETE seems to be pretty good.
Are they still hiring student drivers? Does anyone know if they hire out of California? -

6 months work at another company and he can come here and jump in a truck by himself(I think) That beats being out for 8 weeks with a trainer here.
I like the fact that if I'm stuck at a truckstop for days with other Cretes, we'll be outside "telling tales" for part of the time. There can be a lot of other trucks from the same company there and their drivers never talk to each other.
And, Cretes are good people, not drugged out zombies. I suspect that's due to the 10 hour break.
The limited time I'm in a terminal's breakroom, good people all around me. Maybe except in the Lincoln breakroom, that one guy was wired a little too tight, but, he left, never to be seen again, rambling on how he was in Crete's top 5%. He made for some great conserversation? later.luvtheroad Thanks this. -
Lol, Tucker, I am a "she" not a "he"... Look at the icon. High heels... Geesh lmao.
Thanks for reading my posts, did you read the one about the truck I bought?
Seriously though, I really did think I wanted to work for Crete, but it's not to be and that's the way it is right now. -
I was wondering when you or anyone else would catch that!! -

Well, my good miles have not only stopped(like running into a brick wall) but my good luck with my old reliable truck has also came to a screeching halt. After I delivered in Lakeland the other night, I was offered a unique load, Tampa to Tampa 950 miles(it was actually Tampa to Stone Mountain,GA and returns back to Tampa) Would have been sweet, would have given me 2900+ for the week, and could have done it by Thursday night and had Fri - Mon off and a good amount of time next week to run a few miles. Hometime and miles...worked great, or would have had the rear differential not gone out of my truck in Tifton. Since they turned it down to 62ish, this thing has had the same stutter that everyone else has had. But my truck also 'hammers' the throttle when the cruise picks the throttle back up... I have mentioned it to the shops, but no one seems to care...now it has torn up the rear diff. I stopped north of Tifton at the rest area to take a potty break...and could smell it before I opened the door. The back diff was so hot, I spit on it and it sizzled like a hot skillet. Breakdown had me ease it back to Tifton. Then I ended up sitting all day waiting on them to take a look at it...and then waiting on all the authorization hoops they have to jump through to work on it under warranty. And then head to a motel... I am only 120 mi from home, but almost had to walk to the motel because the only motel that 'claims' to have shuttle service waited until everyone(but one person) at Freightliner went home to call and say they couldn't come pick me up. Fortunately the dude at Freightliner was kind enough to drop me by the motel on his way home. How I'll get back is my problem...I think they have a Taxi service here...Not sure if Leo at our terminal provides shuttle service. But I am this close to home and may end up spending the weekend sitting in a Motel6. Once they get it apart to see what is wrong, then they'll have to get parts and put it all back together. The dude said it'll be a couple days, uh wait, 'couple days'...it's now Thursday, and they don't do weekends here... ...this blows biscuits!!
Hey Karma....when I said I thought about trading my APU truck for a new Cornbinder....I was kidding....
