IMO, there is no way you can be a 1099 contractor if you drive a truck that someone else/the company owns. 1099 means one can work or not work at their will. I'm assuming this 1099 driver you are gonna expect them to be to work at a certain times and work a set schedule. I worked as a "1099" contractor for 2 days. After realizing that I wasn't really that "free" to just come and go at my discretion and reading the fine print all the hooks in the legalize 1099 contract, I realized working as basically an employee with no insurance and no protections was totally not worth it.

When I was a bus mechanic, I owned the tools of my trade.
And since they were in a box on wheels, I was free to take them to another job.
HOWEVER, I was not free to choose my own schedule, and I had no option to accept or decline work assignments.
Not tryna be a dk, and you raised a good point; just sayin' there's a bit more to it.Coffey and truckdriver31 Thank this. -

What are the downsides of 1099 for the driver?
Since I already have health insurance I always hated getting paid the same as guys who were getting that perk.
I know you would need to make sure and save up enough for taxes at the end of the year
Is there anything else?
Always been curious about this , since it never made sense to me that people were insured through their jobstruckdriver31 Thanks this. -

I see you’re being impacted by the, “driver shortage”. Fortunately for you, the ACA has been hard at work for you and all the other carriers affected by the, “driver shortage”. By reaching out to elected officials with bri..., uh, “campaign contributions” there are now special visas available for carriers like yourself who need drivers but can’t find unpaid volunteers or purchase slaves. Contact Driver Reach. For only $125/wk. they’ll provide you with a CDL driver from Africa. Pay them whatever you want. They can’t quit or change jobs - you hold their passport! They drive for you or they go back to Africa and Driver Reach will replace them. Good luck!
