What I find ironic. All the complaints the OP has with trucking are part of all trucking jobs.

This is Very on point. In order or maximizing your money even at larger courier companies like FedEx or Ups you have to work overtime. When you begin for the first 3 years (maybe more depending on your terminal Hub) you will have to work through the Night shifts or at best start at 4 pm contrary to friends & family who probably never will understand this business concept. Plus the daily redundancy rat race of driving back n' forth from work to home (so a good car is a necessity) because of the wear & tear. Most times I contemplate about going back to OTR after 20 years but because of conveniences such as local gyms, my own bed, shower & wife's home cooked meal etc. I delay the processes of change. However, non signalling 4 wheelers with the daily ratrace on the highways 6 days a week, car repairs from the redundancy etc. I sometimes think what difference does it real make for the minor things in life? OTR just means you're at work quicker without a rush walk into work for the punch clock & Manger watching breathing down your neck if you're a minute late!!.. It's a choice but either way by spending time at home with the family at a local job it's still minimal because your working 9 to 10 hours 6 days/week to make that $90k/year.

Personally I don't know a single driver in real life who has ever been forced to do OTR for 6-12 months. They've all been local right out of the gate.

OTR for a year being a requirement is a myth.
