Mega Carries have it on lock. Swift getting so big they hustle out freight for cheap and yeah they pay all these new drivers nothing and that's because they get a free CDL and a job right off the bat, experience, previous jobs, education and criminal history doesn't matter.

I see a few upsides to the megas. While they fa a lot of jerk offs there have been a lot of good drivers that got their start at swift and moved on to bigger and better things. It gives guys a easy way into the industry which is bad for the idiots just looking for a job but good for the guy who wants to learn and drive but can't afford $5000 to go to CDL school. As far making rates crap it's very true but it is unsustainable and it will eventually catch up to them. It will hit a point where service failures outweigh the savings on shipping. Look at DHL when they tried domestic package, that is the German post office and has more money than ups and FedEx combined yet still went under. I was driving a package car for UPS in the days where DHL took all of ours and FedEx work by under cutting rates. It lasted one year, they did it on a much more extreme level so it happened faster but still the same idea. The good drivers just need to weather the storm, it's not going to be today or even next week but it will get better. Look at Amazon, they are all over the news for service failures as they try to cut everyone out and do their own thing..why?.... because the UPS guy is making$39/hr so #### gets done, FedEx guy is making $28/hr so he gets #### done, Amazon guy is making$12.50/hr...it's not getting done. It's the same thing swift is doing and it will catch up to them. Until then keep it between the ditches and be the best you can be.

Newbies care very little about what happens to themself. You can convince a newbie to eat broken glass just by saying "you gotta start somewhere."

Ditch the mortgage, GED and license the kids, install the xBox in the bunk, and roll 24/7

Most WASP americans might not do it, but you know somebody, somewhere will.... besides, it's still probably safer than running a 7-11 franchise or corner bodega

    Why?

we don’t have a shortage of drivers, we have a shortage of people who are willing to be crapped on by mega sized companies or taken advantaged by cheap pos fleet owners.

if anything we need less drivers, rate will go up, the laziness of piss poor managed shippers will end up going away and the system will work better.

the problem is megas they want corner market but when majority drivers average length stay is one to two years. then you go to better pay company you still gonna have bs but atleast your paid well and most can justify the bs with the good pay. my current company is a private company hauling their own goods. most drivers i have talked to have 5 + years with company and they love it.
