When trip preplanning, how do you accurately calculate tolls?

lol.....as a company driver, i never had that extra headache.

you ever get double charged for a toll you never even went thru?

that happened to my truck twice.

something went screwy with the system.

One time on the GWB they billed me by trailer license plate instead of by transponder, which went to the company and cost me an extra $50 fee. I called the Port Authority or whoever runs the bridge toll, and they told me about an appeal process which I had a good chance of winning, but I'm not a paperwork kind of guy so I procrastinated, forgot, and then ended up letting it slide.

yeah i worked for the former NEMF, and the owner (MIke Shevell, who has since passed away) was a really powerful guy, i think that double charging was taken care of.

but i caught hell for it at first. then the toll dept at NEMF found the problem, as it happened to a few other trucks as well in the fleet.

You can certainly do what you want, but an hour of driving time lost is @ 10% of an entire day. At 62 miles per hour, you lost 62 miles of potential revenue, as well as extra fuel costs of driving an extra 24 miles AND having to get back up to speed every time you are forced to slow down.

Even if the load timetable doesn't really allow you to save an hour of time for the day, you are still saving an hour of time on your 70, giving the rest of your week more flexibility.

I just see it differently, I guess.

I'm rarely fighting my 70, and when I am I kick it up a notch. I've usually planned myself out 3-10 days in advance, so I can figure out ahead of time whether or not my 70 will become a factor. That's one of the nice things about self dispatch. When I was on forced dispatch I never saw my next load ahead of time.

Plus 90 bucks per hour covers an awful lot of extra fuel from stoplights. I never counted but I think there's an average of about 8 stoplights that I typically have to stop for. And the tollway has 4 toll booths which eat up half the difference.
