True. And each of us have changing requirements. I’ll be going home maybe every 6 weeks with my new gig. It pays sufficiently that I can earn excellent pay checks without needing to stay out for bonus money, as I did with my previous company.
I do believe that most OTR drivers that thrive on OTR have a greater tolerance for staying out longer periods of time. Those that need frequent home time probably eventually migrate to local or regional jobs, where they can go home more often.CorsairFanboy and smokey12 Thank this. -
Yes ..for some reason when I hit a month I gotta head to the house. I just got home after six weeks out..never again. I won't ever do local..looking seriously at Holland in the future since I can do the minimal 3 to 4 weeks out once in a blue moon maybe more..all I hear are good things about them.

Do they route you specifically where they want you to go? or leave it up to you to reasonably route yourself? I've driven for outfits that gave you specific directions to take and one that gave you carte blanche on your routing. The latter is much nicer lol.

There is a suggested route in the load info, but as long as you stay within 100 miles of out of route they won’t say anything.CorsairFanboy Thanks this.

Only exception is if they route you through Mapleton you have to stop and check in or you used to have to could be annoying sometimes always planned to take my 30 there or stop for the day there

The routes are good and the miles are huge....

Dang that's crap , only 100 miles ? I don't see what's the big deal of taking a load from Allentown PA to salt lake city Utah with out stopping by Miami Florida. Just a couple thousand miles outta routeCorsairFanboy Thanks this.

Years ago I knew a driver that drove for DMS xpress Out of New Jersey and he told me that one of their drivers picked a load up in Kearny New Jersey going to Oakland California which the logical route would be to run 80 all the way across call but he told me the driver ran all the way down to Jacksonville Florida then cut over to Los Angeles cut back up to Oakland…wulfman75 Thanks this.

#### that's going to be a useless fuel surcharge . I know a driver that picked up a 7 stop load in California and skipped every stop and went all the way to PA . The company made him go back to the first stop and charged him a buck a mile for all miles out of routewulfman75, drvrtech77 and Speed_Drums Thank this.
