While it's definitively a serious issue it's not a recall for steering loss, it's a recall for a loose part that COULD cause steering loss. I've never heard of a single incident of this actually happening.

There has been torque issues with many OEMs in the past where things come loose. If its a standard castle nut with cotter pin as they have been for years there is very little risk of steering linkage separation, if any.
The point of the recall is to inspect for wear or movement and retorque suspect components.
Any normal thorough PM inspection should locate these issues.
